Years ago I saw a video of a guy living somewhere pretty wild. He took a 45 gallon oil drum. welded it to a frame and then welded the frame to a truck rim. He drilled holes in it and then fitted it to the back of his jacked up truck. He piled a ton of wet clothes in it, put on a lid held in place by four bungee cords, started the truck, put her in gear and his clothes spinner whirled away flinging out the water as it went. After five minutes he put the truck in a higher gear and gave it about 1 minute of spin at high revs. The video ended with him and his family posing in front of a long washing line filled with clothes. He had eleven children. I got his point.

What a great idea to spin!

I have since bought a great little washer from laundry alternatives. It washes my clothes clean, then spins!

@TexCynRVLife9 жыл бұрын
good idea!
@melaniebruno46325 жыл бұрын
That's what I do; I thought the machine was leaking but the water would pulse up into the drain hose and out the top. It stopped when I got the brilliant idea to plug the end with a cork. No more leakage.

It looks like the spinner is working pretty well for the small stuff. Do you have any ideas for the heavier items? I'm thinking a nylon rope ran thru the belt loops of jeans tied to your ladder then going for a brisk drive would work well. :-D
@TexCynRVLife11 жыл бұрын
OH! I think that the dryer would be cheaper than putting gas in my tank...but now I've got that image stuck in my mind. Gee, gonna have one weird dream tonight! ;) I'm still thinking about buying a hand wringer. But I'll admit that I was surprised how faster the jeans dried compared to the other things. Maybe the weight of them made gravity pull the water out more?? Don't know... (ok, dream has already started, somehow my mind just turned my jeans into a sail for a sail boat!)
@pegb85611 жыл бұрын
I hope you didn't have weird dreams last night, the jeans comment was just my attempt at lame humor. Now that my mind is really going awry I'm thinking pants on the back of your RV might send a whole different sort of message to some people. Best not to advertise that your pants are off. LOL Have a good day and always stay safe.

Just found your channel, nice demo of the mini washer. Looked that and the Nina dryer up on amazon. Both seem to work well, sure beats the plunger and hand wringing. Looking forward to more video's... :-)
@TexCynRVLife8 жыл бұрын
+Ray Lovett Thanks. The mini washer broke, something electrical I think? I do have a Nina Spinner now, LOVE IT! Found a wonder wash at a resale shop, so am using that for now, but I like the mini washer better. Thanks for your comment :)

+Ray Lovett I would have ordered a combo unit, but they are too large to fit in my tiny RV tub. So for now, it's the Nina spinner (which works great) & my wonder wash until I can get my washer fixed. Thanks for the link though. Maybe someone else will see your post & find it perfect for them!

Hi 😊 Does the washing machine plug in, or no power? And your dryer there, is that a laundry pod?
@TexCynRVLife6 жыл бұрын
Yes. It plugs into regular power. The thing I was experimenting with to spin the clothes was a salad spinner! Those were my early days of testing, now I have better equipment.

ohh i thought it should come with a dry spinner tray. i saw another vid with one

They do have one out now with a built in spinner - same brand as mine, but I hear the spinner really doesn't work all that well. unfortunately, my washer fell off the pedestal I use it on & broke the capacitor. Now I need to find a new capacitor. This washer really washes my clothes well.

put holes in the bottom of the salad spinner, cause the water is being re soaked when you stop spinning

I was looking for a way to wash salads because I need to do it like 10x in order to be able to eat them (some weird allergy). I was thinking that's what you were doing and then heard you say "I can use this tub for water OR laundry" and thought: gross, dirty socks in the tub used for a salad? She must be really pressed for space in that RV. Lol! Then I figured out it's not for food at all. Damn KZbin. :)

ReignBeauHounds Great thanks for sharing your video. I was looking up rv washers because I plan on living full time in an Rv or trailer coming summer 2017. I wish the unit you had, had just a spinning cycle that would dry the close also. Like an all in one. Anyhow thanks again!
@TexCynRVLife8 жыл бұрын
+Rusty Lee They do have ones with built in spinners. I have heard that the Basecamp model with a spinner is not that great. Downside to having the separate washer & separate spinner is storage space. So be aware of that when you start looking. I have to store mine in my van.
@triplerrv19988 жыл бұрын
Thank you I think I will go with the dual model. I will be living in an Rv for the rest of my life might as well make it as comfortable as possible. =-)

does the mimi washer have a spin cycle to ring out the water?

No. This one doesn't. They came out with a new m9del that does, but from reviews, it doesn't spin the water out of clothes well.

question what is the maximum temperature while washing
@TexCynRVLife9 жыл бұрын
You fill it with water, so you choose your own temp. I don't know the maximum on it, but my RV water is really hot & I've used it in it. I don't know the temp of my water. Have never checked it.

You can buy a washing machine that washes and spins like a salad spinner. You can also buy a Panda that has a separate section for the spin cycle.

I needed something that would fit in my very small tub. Did alot of research back then & it was the best fit for my small motorhome. I eventually want to buy a spinner, but for now, storage is an issue, so I hand wring. Thanks for your suggestions though. :)

Why not wait until you get to a town that has a Laundromat and do a big wash with a REAL washing machine that does a MUCH better job than this cheap crap and dry your clothes in a REAL dryer....... ❓🙄 Lordy, crazy RV people who spent most of their vacation time doing the SAME thing they do at home - cook, clean and wash. WOW🙄
@TexCynRVLife7 жыл бұрын
It's not a vacation...it's a lifestyle. But I was practicing around, testing. The washer actually did a great job of washing clothes. I now have a really good spinner by Nina & it nearly dries my clothes. It doesn't take them long to dry after I hang them.
@billredding20007 жыл бұрын
@TexCyn RV Life: Yes, you're correct: The "cheap crap" machines -- as James calls them -- often clean clothes better than many full-size washers. It seems that James is just ignorant about these machines...but actually he's doubly ignorant, as knows noting about RV life and what works best in that scenario, either. Finally, there are several reasons NOT to go to laundromats, but again, that'd escape people like James. Happy Travels, -- BR
