Both of them sound lovely and I could take either sound and work with it. Your base tonality is excellent as well, really good pedal selection for the Vox. Thanks for this

Nice comparison. Plexi sounded much better to me. It's a little brighter and even distorted you can hear the individual notes in the chords. OCD sounded dark and rolled off.
@garcol423 жыл бұрын
Plexi sounds kinda anemic against the OCD at low to mid gain, but at full gain it definitely pulls ahead, OCD starts sounding too dark. I’ve noticed that with my ocd too and to counter that I put a Tone City Wildfire in front of it, they sound awesome together. Great comparison🤙🏼

My real issue with the OCD is that, to me at least, it's a bit of a one trick pony. It does one thing really well but it is not useable across the entire gain range. I also find it picky when stacking with other pedals.
@SaxJockey3 жыл бұрын
I started out with a V2.0 OCD, too much bass for my set up, they have recently updated it to the V2.01 probably to help out with that. Now have a V1.4 which has less bass, which helps prevent the amp getting to muffled when driven. I really like the V1.4, the thinner sound (compared to V2.0) helps a lot with a warm/dark set up (humbuckers on a semi-hollow body guitar). Even so, it benefits form a treble booster in front....that's the second best thing I ever did, build a simple treble booster from a kit for only £34 posted (US$48). The booster is on most of the time, it has a treble boost setting (heavy bass cut) and full boost setting (minimal bass cut). If pedal manufacturers had included that into their OD/disortion pedals that would be a winner. The Wampler Mini Plexi certainly sounds like it has a lot of bite.
@garcol423 жыл бұрын
That’s a good point, I guess at that point it just comes down to personal preference, I like having a pedal that does one thing really well vs a pedal that does 10 things only decently. I wouldn’t know about how well it plays with others, so that’s definitely a mark against it. I’ve only ever put it with the wildfire and a boss ds-1 (which sounded gross through my amp) so I guess I just got lucky that it pairs well with the wildfire
@garcol423 жыл бұрын
@SaxJockey That’s a good idea with the treble booster, I might try that. I still have one of the older ones, v2 I think, but I’ve been using the ocd as a light gain pedal cause it’s awesome for that. The wildfire is my high gain pedal, and when I run it into the ocd the ocd adds a bit of beefiness but has the extra treble boost from the wildfire. A treble booster definitely sounds better and better though, my main amp is a tweaker and it seems naturally darker compared to others no matter what tubes I use
@SaxJockey3 жыл бұрын
@@garcol42 Exactly, everyone's setup varies, what's good for some, not for others. Funny you mention the DS-1, bought a used one recently (£40 posted) with no high expectations. Very surprised that it gets close to sound from an OCD PLUS treble booster for quarter the price! It has it's place, for rough, abrasive rock music. Works for me with a dark humbucker/semi hollow guitar. Sounds harsh with solid body single coil guitars.

Great video with superb editing and sound! I prefer the plexidrive. A bit smoother (softer clipping) than the hard clipping OCD and also more open sounding. Similarities between Wampler Pantheon and Plexidrive soundwise so maybe Plexidrive is a bluesbreaker-circuit as well.
@TheToneLounge3 жыл бұрын
Thank you Bosse! Yeah the Plexi-Drive is a great MIAB. My understanding is that the Plexi-Drive is more along the lines of a JTM45, so more old school gain.
@SpaceJockey8053 ай бұрын
Weird comparison. The OCD is best used as a boost pedal, while the Plexi Drive is more of an always-on pedal. I would stack the OCD into the PD and see what happens 🤔

Pantheon:Blues Breaker kind of overdrive thing but no:This is super versatile:you can have terrific low ,medium and even high gain tones,All in one! The Belle,which is a very transparent pedal full of attitude and rock!The switch side button in the ON position is lovely! A Gearbox:Ok,this is a game changer:maybe the Most smart pedal from Wampler line:Two drives in one(Pinnacle with 3 band EQ and the Tumnus)that you can change the channels order plus add pedals in between both plus a wonderful and high quality noise gate system that doesn’t loose the natural tone even cranked!!! @TheToneLounge2 жыл бұрын
The PD is far more neutral in terms of coloration, at least to my ears. The OCD that I have has tons of low end and low mids. Not a bad sound, but definitely does not play well with all of my amps and pedals. The PD does.

OCD has more upper mid and the plexi seems a bit more scooped. I guess whatever fits your gear and your ear. (TM)

The Plexi-Drive, like any other pedal really, can sound fizzy when pushed. Heck, my AC15 sounds fizzy when I crank it up. It's one of the reasons why I never use the gain from the amp. Have you tried a MIAB that was outstanding, or at least near perfect? For me, the Thermion Heartbreaker is the best MIAB I've ever tried.

@@TheToneLounge I haven't played a lot of MIAB pedals. But of the ones I have tried, the EHX OD Glove, at 18V via the internal voltage pump, is my favourite. When I traded my Glove as part of a package to get a handwired Love Pedal BBB06, I missed it and have to go acquire another. Now that all of this has been mentioned, I think I am going to include the Glove in the 5 pedal tweed shootout later today, after all Marshall's first amp the JTM45 is a 1960 Fender Bassman 5F6-A clone. I'll let you know my thoughts, while we wait for my Id14 to arrive. :)
