There's few loudspeakers as striking and sophisticated as Avantgarde's Duo series. At AXPONA 2023 Tom Martin got the inside scoop from American Sound Distribution Angie Lisi on the NEW DUO GT.
About Tom Martin:
Tom is a long-time audiophile. He began his reviewing career after acquiring the The Absolute Sound magazine in 1997 and then hi-fi+ magazine in 2002. He has worked closely with Harry Pearson and Robert Harley at TAS and with Roy Gregory and Alan Sircom at hi-fi+. The difference between the Uno and Duo is also the horn size of the midrange. And at 1:24 she means Duo GT… not the best presentation. Pity, because she seems very likeable.

sound takes on the character of the material it reflects off...these horns are made of plastic...but musical instruments never are..so these speakers have a major weakness.

@@nirodha35 yes, although the major flaw in his detraction is that the horns do not generate the sound, they only inertly guide already created energy. At least I would suppose the would be inert for that kind of money. Some saxophones are non metal, and more commonly, most of horn in marching band sousaphones. Without even checking, I am sure wooden horns are available, but for a sales demonstration it is probably better to hook the customer before you start taking about more money for different materials.

@@DrBroncanuus: In principle, of course, you are right, but according to your logic, silk or metal tweeters should not be used in loudspeaker construction. It's all about low resonance, isn't it? Avantgarde Acoustic uses a custom ABS plastic, which is very resonance-neutral. The guys at Avantgarde Acoustic are music lovers and engineering freaks. I live near Avantgarde Acoustic and have sat in their showroom several times. If you are ever near Heidelberg/Germany, make an appointment and go there, they are very friendly.
