Are we going to see an upgraded shift and brake lever for the Continental GT650? I find that the shifter in particular could do with being a bit longer. I often only get about half my big toe hooked under the shifter and sometimes causes me to miss a shift or make an incomplete shift.
@johnrumbles30683 жыл бұрын
I fitted the full set today with the 40mm extension kit. It was not as straight forward as it appears in the video. I started as George did, with the LH side gear lever. I chose to remove the peg hanger, and that turned out to be a good idea, as the new peg did not go straight into the hanger as the video shows. The stock peg is 19mm, and the TEC peg is 20mm. I took a file to the inside faces of the hanger, and removed the paint and a small bit of metal (easy enough as it is aluminium) to get it the peg to fit, with the pivot pin. Introducing the return spring, took a bit of time, but following Georges idea of using an allen key as a guide bar it worked for me in the end. Moving to the RH side for the brake, I followed the same procedure, and removed the hanger completely, filed down the inside faces as before, and followed the procedure as per the video. Now I can keep the skin on my shins, and the riding position is much more comfortable. In fairness to TEC Bike Parts, the quality of their products is excellent, and I therefore believe the discrepancies in the fit from what is seen in the video, can only be due to the RE manufacturing/quality control, and perhaps an over zealous spray painter :-)

Hey Kevin, while I bought them some time back, just this week I got around to installing them on my 650, and I am very pleased with the result. I moved the pegs down and a little back, and not only is it more comfortable, it feels as if I have somewhat better control of the bike as a result of it fitting me better, and putting the balls of my feet beneath my hips. Putting them back was key for me. For the record, I am 6'2" with a 33" inseam/inside leg.

I've just spent today getting these on the bike. I had a bit of an issue with the springs. I got the straight one in the little hole, but the spring wasn't long enough to hook the other end over the top of the bracket. That end is now butted up against the internal side of the bracket next to the pin. A spring with a slightly longer tail on that side would make it a lot easier. Anyway, the spring in there isn't going anywhere and it's doing it's job. I got the 40mm ones and had them forward and slightly down. I think that they're great.

I just finished installing the footpegs on my GT. I've never had rearset pegs before, I felt like I was searching for the brake. The 40 mm. extension solved this for me. Well made, easy install following George's tips. Better break lever for the GT and redesigned mounting brackets for both models seems like a good idea though. How about 2 into 2 pipes with a more flared out profile like the British twins had back in the day? Fast shipping from Tec USA too. Never had any issues with Tec Bike products and Dave at Tec USA replied to a question I had within minutes. I hope everyone is well.

I have the TECBike set. The adjustability part is wholly dependent on the placement of the foot peg from front to rear. It doesn't offer that much range up or down. Maybe an inch. In fact, being lower has this weird gap between the mount and the foot peg. With the standard OEM peg part of your foot will be on the mount and the peg. I'm not knocking the product I really knocking that ungainly OEM foot-peg mount. It's really just a trade-off. It would be better to have a telescoping lever independent of the pegs. If you don't have the pegs, you won't have any adjustability. They aren't bad, but it's limited. I would rather someone design a better mounting bracket for the foot peg itself. Relocating a large mount isn't an ideal solution, it just changes it's placement and its still this massive hunk of a mount. Something aluminum would better. The mount needs to be smaller, lighter and not as wide. It's a pretty large unwieldily OEM design, which is central to the complaints about the OEM location. I don't know if it would be possible to make a lighter mount. The stock placement of the GT mount is far better than the interceptor. It's like the GT location was the preferred location and the Inceptor location was an afterthought. Anyway TBP's product is nice, it's just working with the stock location that's the problem/

On the Interceptor you need to move the shift linkage attachment point on the foot lever to the underside to reverse the shift pattern to GP. I did this by cutting and welding the stock lever, then had to cut a section and reweld to raise the lever tip about 2" because the linkage was going over center on dowshifts. With the lever raised it shifts well now and anyone making CNC pedals could easily program it to put the linkage on the underside of that lever for GP. Wish they'd do it...some would sell if they were available.
