Best description I have seen so far.... so many are over complicated with their videos. Last thing you want in a tough situation is complexity. Thank you for a brilliant video 👍👌😊

I used this setup at the weekend (Sat 29th Nov) up a mountain called Doan in the Mournes. It's a great setup but when it started to get windy on the mountain there were a few issues. No matter how taut I made it, the sides bowed in on every gust of wind and kept waking me up by hitting me lol. Also there was a lot of condensation so on each gust it felt like it was raining inside (I can upload a video if anyone wants to see it from the inside on a windy day). It is a really useful setup but for comfort, I would recommend a slightly sheltered area and leave a side raised slightly for ventilation. In a survival situation, probably couldn't get a better configuration. I was also surprised how sturdy the tarp was as there were no signs of stretching or damage afterwards. Anyway, thanks for the video, I will definitely use again!

in the wind, I peg out one of the tarps central loops to help keep it off me. you must sleep really warm, never had much condensation, glad you like it though bud! All the best!

+Stephen Hegarty I use this setup with the AlpKit Rig 7 tarp, it has extra tie-out loops around the face of it that allow you to guy out the sides and make it more stable in the wind

Cheers for that Peak District Hillbilly I've recently started to use some of Alpkits stuff and so far so good. Yet to try any of their tarps though.

nice technique to close off the door during any inclement weather tarps are great as long as you manage to keep the weather off or out many tarp configurations have a weak area where weather changes in direction can make you too exposed to the elememts this method ensures a sealed off shelter on all sides ideal for places like dartmoor in a hooley!! most tarp setups are for woodland type environments where you often have intrinsic natural shelter available arounds you but in more exposed places you require a 100% seal all arounds you!! this method acheives it!!

Very interesting tarp setup! Excellent! I have been thinking about simplifying my gear and have only 1 do-it-all shelter. I think a 3x3m square tarp like this is a very good solution. In this setup it should not be any problems to use it above tree line, where it can be very windy. I noticed that one of the tie-outs is in the middle of the wall (which can be seen 26-27 sec in the video), that can be tied out if its windy. Add a couple of extra pegs around the perimeter and it should be strong enough.

absolutely, I discussed this with a few people at the bushcraft show. Yet to take it into the mountains but I'm confident it'll do well!

Ooh, very clever. I like that a lot! I need to work out how a paddle might be substituted for a walking pole, but a line over a branch should suffice fairly often. All the best, Al

Simple but effective. I like it Dan, maybe a clove hitch where the guy wraps round the pole though?
@SilvaWolf10 жыл бұрын
I like my larks head knots more! Thanks John!
@subscriber1a10 жыл бұрын
With a clove hitch you could use a continuous guy and set in two locations anywhere around the bivouac should the weather change (which it always bloody does lol). Eitherusing two line loks or a prussic on the far end of a long guy. IMO this would make it more stable should the wind pick up Dan.

Hi, Did you try this setup in rain conditions? Most fabrics leak if there is something touching them from inside or outside. Do you think this setup will be water proof, considering the knot you made at the top and the pole which is touching the fabric?

All it reall takes is instead of a rigid pole, you use three flexible rods like the material used to mark the edges of driveways in the winter and a small wooden ball with three holes drilled into it at the proper position. I’ve got a homemade walking stick that has four of these rods (always have a spare) fitted into groves I’ve cut into into the stick and then held in place by wrapping a long length of cordage into a tight band at several points and the ball is threaded onto a thick screw at the top. Similarly right at the top I have a dozen simple rigid wire stakes with eyelet loops bent into them

Its fully enclosed with the problem that its not fully enclosed, cos there is no floor. Go to Far north bushcraft to check how FET looks like. Also on my channel. Of course its not a big problem with naming, you have shown sth useful.

Hi there, Would this be possible with the Superlight version as well? Or would the fact that it's only 2.9x3m, so not perfectly square, make that the pyramid is off?
@GeneralPreparedness19 жыл бұрын
Could this setup fit two people measuring 1.9m and 1.77m if you pegged out two of the loops closer to the door at an outward angle?
@Kababoes6 жыл бұрын
Nice set up mate. What about the condensation at night inside the tent? I guess you can't get out in the morning through the small exit without getting a wet back. What is your experience?
@SilvaWolf6 жыл бұрын
Kababoes in my experience you don't get we enough to worry about it if you're careful. This set up is one of my 'go-to's' for poor weather while ground dwelling
@Kababoes6 жыл бұрын
My favorite set up for poor conditions is the 'sheepfold' with low open front. Even then I experience condens. Anyway, will try this one next time. Thanks mate, keep on going. Cheers.

Question Shiva, this tent seems pretty unstable compared to others you have posted. With the triangular shape how stable is this in the term of actually staying in the tent over night? I know you said you can move the pole as needed, but have you actually stayed in this form over night and if so how did you find the functionality of the design?
@SilvaWolf10 жыл бұрын
We had this set up the other day in the wind, without any problems, this shelter is no less stable than any of the other tent like configurations as there is much less surface area to catch wind near the top. in fact after filming this, it held its structure without any of the pegs!
@vandalnoire384410 жыл бұрын
Cool thanks for the response, keep up the good work and love the videos.
