Finally a multi-item sorter that does everything you guys asked me in the past. This was one of the most requested projects on my channel since I released version alpha so your feedback has been taken into account, thank you very much!
I've been working on this system (on and off) for a long time and I am happy with what this system can do now: It checks for 50 items at the same time all at once for every chest it passes!
Doesn't look like it but the design of (multi) item sorters is a very tedious and time consuming process which is why I needed to find the energy to work on it again.
The vertical dropper item elevator you saw is based on Techman88's design! Other than that I came up with this system all by myself but after some research I would also like to mention a few people who also worked on multi-item sorters and deserve some attention:

DS2 Can turn Double Speed on/off. It's off by default because it's unstable for now and hard to debug and fix! There is a lever at the back of the system that turns it back on, use with caution. There will be a new fully featured version but that's one stable enough to use now. Your feedback made all the fixes possible, please keep them coming!

Use fabric mods. Forge is a different game because its fully recompiled version of Minecraft, meaning its all new code, just they try the most to make it behave the same way. Fabric uses vanilla code as shipped by Mojang, and the only changes are because of the mods you applied. I dropped you a msg in discord, hope you don't mind.

To hasten the emptying of the hopper minecart, use another hopper minecart sitting on two hoppers. You'll probably need to double up on the non stackable filter, but it sure will make things faster. Also, as some people ar pointing out: you'll need a non stackable item sorter on the input. Fantastic design. I'm sure I'll end up building it with a few tweaks and changes. Thanks!

@@MaizumaGames Hm... I've been trying around for a bit and it doesn't seem to be too doable, without making the design too big. The way you return the filter item to the chest is really simple and smart, and seems to only work with your layout. Regardless, I'll send you a couple of unloaders through tweeter, in case you also want to try around.

I tried it with Fabric mods(miniHUD, VoxelMap and Optifabric) + ray-tracing and it worked! You should put a non-stackable item sorter at the beginning, because when I put the diamond sword in it, it got lost.

The last part is wrong because the hopper minecart will full with 16 snowballs at the beginning. So the snowball can't be sorting.

If you've built it from the DS update, I recommend checking out DS2, there's a simple orange circuit you can add at the back of the system that makes it 100% stable in case you have trouble with the sorters :-]

This is pretty awesome, I love the minecart concept. I'll have to play around with it and see if I can find some optimizations. I recently collaborated with a few other talented redstoners to build a multi-item sorter similar to your first design. I'd be curious to see that second version that you never revealed. We were able to solve pretty much all the problems you listed, but I'm curious to see how you dealt with them.

Cass two things 1. Great design best (variable) sorter that I have seen. 2. Works on the PS4 with a few changes. I play on the PS4 primarily but do have java for the purpose of the world down loads. Most of your things I can build strait off of your tutorials, while some I have to modify to work. And ones I modified I put the modification on my channel for other PS4 players, and give the primary credit to you. Thanks for the great videos and tutorials.

You should be able to do either a double hopper unloader or at least use a hopper minecart to unload the items. I have toyed around with this a bit in a different storage system but it would speed up yours quite a bit. I really do love this storage system! Been a big fan for years and I really gotta say you did a great job with this even if it isn't exactly to your standards it's still great!

on the alternate rail layout using the repeaters, I am having problem with every other one when it takes the item the track changes but sends the cart back to the previous station ? Do you have any idea what might be wrong ?

I'm not sure I understand your description of the problem. The tracks that get the cart in the unloader stations change dynamically but the ones that return the cart to collection chest are static so you should be able to set them as you wish.

the only thing I would do is add a toggle to the input chest, to not start the minecart till the pistons covering the input chest are back in place, during my testing putting different items in the chest cause the minecart to make 2 or 3 trips to finish putting away a half stalk of the same item because it pre-maturely grabbed them from the chest and would leave behind some or make it so they are in the second slot not the first because another item thrown in the input chest took up the spot. If you get what I'm saying

Actually trying to rebuild it on my serv. First thing first best design i've ever seen, cant wait to see when gnembon will magically improve it with his stand. But forgive me, it's an horrible mess to build in survival its gonna take me 3/4 days to fully understand it and replicate it without a construction tutorial. So if I can give you an advice, make a tutorial to construct it and you'll get many millions views (not saying that in my personal interest at all ;) ). Be as awesome as always congrats again.

Hey, i've been working on a similar sorting system for the past few weeks but it differs quite a lot from yours, would you want to see it? It can have a chest every block instead of every second block and it doesn't require the railroads to switch with perfect timing so it can potentially be better for servers. Anyway I would love to discuss it with you since you are my favorite youtuber and make so much awesome stuff! At first I had a similar idea to what you have here but i just couldn't get the redstone to work, but you of course could! Let me know if you are interested and I can send you my world!

I tried to build this on my survival world. It works great except for one major flaw, and I can't figure it out. I've got everything set up, but when an item is removed, the rail isn't switching to dock the cart. It's only when I put the item back in that it switches (thus always sending the cart back into the loop). ... is it because I've built this north/south instead of east/west or something?

The cart is making it to the right stations, but it's getting sent back through the loop every time because the activator rail always sends it back in. A potential improvement: If you make the mine cart track a loop and are able to get the item which is taken out of the top chest back in fast enough, you might just be able to keep two minecarts on the track at once, thus increasing the sorting speed. P.S. I think bilingualism is cool. I’ve always been awful with languages.

Yes, I've been thinking about using multiple minecarts in parallel. The tricky part is to make sure they don't collide with each other while still keeping the system simple.
