It’s fascinating how innovation comes from practical challenges like labor shortages! The collaboration between De Terp organic farm and Hegro Agri Service to create a pumpkin harvesting machine is a great example of adapting to modern needs. Visiting the machine at estate farms Mariënwaerdt must have been a unique experience, especially seeing how such technology can revolutionize the traditionally labor-intensive process of harvesting pumpkins. It's exciting to see how agriculture continues to evolve with creativity and efficiency!

What percentage of pumpkins is mechanically damaged during the harvest? Is it possible to use pumpkins harvested by this machine for storage?
@ralphknobbout30223 ай бұрын
The pumpkins are storage for weeks and sometimes months at the time depending on the Shelflife, but I don’t know what percentage gets damaged
@Farmfactoryhd3 ай бұрын
I guess about 60% will be damaged; hand-harvested pumpkins will taste better and last longer in storage compared to machine-harvested ones.

@@hughmarcus1 Damaged pumpkins can also be efficiently utilized by processing them into by-products such as animal feed, organic fertilizer, or even as raw materials for producing other useful products like natural cosmetics or bioproducts. Yes it kills the plant, but the pumpkin plant only lives for 1 year, and the soil has to be ploughed etc so it doesn’t matter if the plant gets killed
