I got the Charger 3 this year and love it. I do 30 km each way commute to work everyday and this bike takes the 150 meter climb on the way home out of the equation. Fantastic bike especially for someone like me who is not the fittest. Great commuter especially between towns.

I've had this bike since august, done 600km so far. Mine is also a GT Vario, but I have the petrol matt (basically blue in unfancy language) 56cm version. I'd agree with most of what you said, this bike isn't the best in any category, but it is very very good in every category, which is one of the three main reasons why I bought it, the others being the connectivity of the smart system, and the other being the expected low maintenance of the hub gear + belt drive system. There is one potential drawback I haven't heard mentioned though, the riding position is quite sporty. For me, it's not much of a problem, as I'm quite bike-fit from also having done about 1000km in the couple of months before getting the Charger 4, but I have heard complaints about numb handpalms from older people. Me, I also think I wouldn't have gotten the Charger 4 if I was ~20 years older, it really is a rather sporty bike. All in all though, I'd say that it's one of the best products I've ever bought (so far at least), and I'm thoroughly enjoying how good it feels every single time I get on it. Even other brands that are supposedly quite good, like Gazelle, Batavus, Sparta etc now feel like flimsy toys when I ride them for a few minutes.

Thank you for your honest feedback on the bike, Rafterman and glad to know this is one of the best products you've bought! We hope you have endless hours of enjoyment on the bike and if you're ever in London or any one of our other stores in the UK, do pop in to say hi!

How tall are you? I am trying to determine the best frame size.
@raftermanhoward1883 Жыл бұрын
@@native-groove Completely forgot about this comment. I'm around 195/196cm and I got the 56cm frame. On the website they claim that the 53cm is for riders 1.80 to 1.95 and the 56cm is for riders 1.95 to 2.05, but even being on the shorter side of the 56cm category, I have the saddle raised quite high (visually at least). So I would say if you're on the edge of two categories, opt for the larger one. I have 2000+ km now btw, commute to work daily and the Riese & Muller part of the bike has been great. I have had some problems with the Bosch smart system though, where I sometimes have to restart my phone to find the connection between phone and bike.

I have a question about the Charger line; or all R&M models in general. When the Purion display is selected, the bike in general is paired with an Acros Headset with cables directly running into it. Whilst this keeps the overall look tidy, i have noticed that this allows an inordinate amount of water into the head tube, and you can tell that the electrics are not happy inside as they make a ‘frying’ noise. I have put a bead of silicone over the ports to prevent further water ingress, but surely this must be addressed by the manufacturer as it will severely shorten the working life of the bike. It is the only thing that’s keeping me from ordering a Nevo at the moment

I really like the look of Riese and Muller bikes. I love the Charger4, the SuperCharger (in mustard!) and the Tinker but I can't have them all sadly. I'm still trying to make a decision,but will probably go for the SuperCharger with the Rohloff system (I don't really need it, but I'm a tech geek and just like it). However, I do have a question based on recent observations: Whilst I am not that into full on eMTB bikes, hence the Delite isn't on my radar, I have noticed that the reviews of eMTBs never seem to figure Riese and Muller bikes into the head-to-head comparisons. It's the usual suspects every time; Scott, Trek, Specialised, et al. Why is that? Is it that the eMTB aficionados don't rate R&M? If not, why not? Any and all opinions gratefully accepted here. Thanks.
@FullychargedUK Жыл бұрын
Hi Nigel, thanks for getting in touch. Great to hear you're as much of a fan of Riese & Müller's eBikes as we are! The SuperCharger is an epic eBike and the Rohloff technology is generally regarded as the most durable gearing system. You're right about Riese & Müller rarely featuring on eMTB reviews. The Delite Mountain is considered to be the flagship eMTB model. Even though many of their eBikes feature their Control Technology package, they are geared towards off-road trekking and bridleway style terrains, with the suspension focused around comfort as well as performance. If you are interested in eMTBs, we stock a number of models manufactured by Moustache. Being an eMTB specialist brand, they have a plethora of different off-road options. The Bosch Smart System brings with it a wealth of new features such as a lock system, an alarm feature, custom riding modes, a 750Wh battery, an eBike flow app, and more to come with over-the-air updates. We do believe that this alone warrants this price point, not least the other components that are on the product.

Thanks for the informative video. This could be the bike for me. I want a carbon belt and hub gears and had selected the Homage. However, being in IT, I want a bike with the Bosch SS. Thanks to you, I can see that the hardtail would be enough suspension for me and so the Charger 4 is a good fit. I would prefer to use my Android mobile (Samsung S22) as a display, so as to get the benefit of navigation. According to Bosch, one can choose to swap between the Kiox and the Smartphone and back any time. However, I am told that the cabling on the R&M has to be either one or the other. Is that right?
@FullychargedUK2 жыл бұрын
Hi Bob, thank you for getting in touch and for your comments... all very valid and glad that you're arriving towards the Charger4 as your preferred Riese & Müller. Obviously a man of taste. Yes, you're correct, with R&M you do have to choose a particular cockpit, with the Smartphone hub not able to be a part of the SS currently. Our customers have had very mixed reviews of the smartphone hub. We would always suggest the Kiox; some of our customers simply have a Quadlock and a Quadlock case and fit their phone onto the handlebar. Hope this was helpful?

Great video and well edited. Wish I could afford one of these. In a city it's just out of the question to lock something so expensive up ANYWHERE. It will be angle-grinded away in short time. P.s. it didn't sound too healthy in this video tho lol

Thank you for your comment. You do mention safety and security and there are very good locks available. With the Charger4 we would recommend either the ABUS Granit Extreme (which at Fully Charged we can mount onto the rear-rack) or a Hiplok D-1000. With regards to the sound, the bike we were using for filming had a slight issue with it whilst going up the hill that was resolved as soon as we got to the top!

Hey Falah, thanks for the positive feedback. Great to hear you enjoyed the video. The Riese & Müller Charger4 costs £5,099 for the Touring model. We realise buying an eBike like the Charger4 is a considerable investment but it's one that can actually save you money in the long run, especially when you take into account the residual value these bikes hold due to their quality and Bosch drive systems. It's a very versatile bike, so whether you were commuting or using it for grocery shopping, it's a great replacement for a car or train. We've made a video on how premium eBikes can save you money which you can watch here -> kzbin.info/www/bejne/d3nGdZp5f7aef5Y. Whilst we understand that an eBike cannot do everything a car can, there are equally as many things an eBike can do that a car cannot!

The biggest thing holding me back on a bike like this is security. With an electric motor, something like an immobilizer would be helpful, but the reality is that you really need somewhere safe to park on both ends of a commute.

@FullychargedUK Жыл бұрын
Hey there, interesting point here about the noise levels of eBikes. As electric bike technologies have evolved in recent years, the 'whine' noise of the motor that you refer to has been significantly reduced at the middle to top-end of the electric bike market, with it only audible when the motor is working to power the bike up steeper gradients. At Fully Charged, we're big believers in Bosch eBike motors; not only do they offer long-lasting quality but they're range of motors are also particularly silent.

At first sight, it might smell a bit like price gouging, but take it from me as someone who did about 50 hours of research before ultimately pulling the trigger: these ebikes really aren't that outrageously priced when you add up all the parts, everything on this bike is premium, and no bike manufacturer has all this stuff in-house. Look for any ebike with the new Smart System consisting of a 750wh battery, a 85nm engine, and kiox 300 display and you're already not finding anything under about €5000. Then add the Enviolo continuous gears, the gates belt, the cane creek thudbuster, the suntour 100mm front suspension fork, the magura MT5 disc brakes and you simply get this price of nearly 6k euros. Believe me, I also looked to find something cheaper, but that was always with compromise. Every time I thought I found another bike to save 200-1000 euros, it either had a chain with shimano gears, or it had less advanced disc brakes, or it had cheaper and thinner tires, or it didn't have any front suspension, or it didn't have saddle suspension. Ultimately I decided to just go for it, just like there's no get rich quick schemes that work, there simply wasn't a bike of this level available for a significantly lower price.
