I would much rather you didn't fly at all and made a point of it. You say it's the only way of doing things but that's the kind of thinking that has got us into this mess. A massive proportion of flying is done by a very small set of people. It might be normal to people within it but it's fanciful to the rest of us. Every one ticket sold on every flight is a vote to stick with the "climate change lifestyle status quo" and frankly whether you're apologising when you do it or not makes very little difference. We need to exercise two mental muscles to avoid the extinction of our species on this planet: creativity and obstinacy.

I actually think this might be one of the most important EV's to come out for quite a while now. Not because it's particularly groundbreaking or amazing, but because this is a legacy automaker taking a legal model and now saying 'Right - this previous ICE model is now only available as an EV'. Not 'we're taking this legacy model and producing ICE, Hybrid or EV versions (Peugoet e-208, Vauxhall mokka-e)' or 'We've got specific ICE models brands, and then new EV models brands (VW and Nissan) but just 'Hey, that was last years Megane, this is this years now. Robert, you sounded disappointed about the lack of a powered boot. Surely not. Less weight, more range must be better. Looking forward to Live.
@David-bl1bt2 жыл бұрын
I agree......plus more complexity, more assembly time, all at additional cost to the end user. If a power boot doesn't have a foot sensor it is of no more benefit than pressing a button, It doesn't make any sense. Once having pressed the button you have to stand around, usually in the rain holding heavy shopping bags whilst waiting for it to tediously motor open. I can open the boot, put in my shopping, close it again, get into the car out of the rain quicker than a boot powering open. I have a power boot, if there was an option to not have one and save on the cost, I would tick that box.
@steffenjensen93502 жыл бұрын
@@David-bl1bt Disagree on that. Not even a sort of handle but only a push button ! You’ll get dirty hands when operating that thing ! Powered opening by foot sensor makes life easier, when carrying stuff, and you stay clean. It’s a must have option, regardless of the costs, you should have the option ;)

A good looking family car. Would be super interested in a bit of a family car showdown between this, the e-nero, MG5 and MG ZS. The MGs still seem to be winning in the £/mile range based on the list prices though. It's a big jump from the high end of the MG range to the low end of the Megane's expected pricing at £35k for the smaller battery version!

Ooo, (la la?!) I do like this EV Megane. Beautiful design, decidedly French tech' look, and great that it weighs less than some BEV cars, good for range and wear & tear. Renault has once again put a very, very good EV on the road - I will certainly take a closer look at it at the dealer - for me the size of the car is right, the battery capacity - okay, the 60 kWh should be it! First impression - great EV, great Renault!

@@loosabway3400 Not everything has to be fast to be fun. If I want to have fun I take our old Giulia 1970's GTAM race car to a track. Not fast but oh so fun. Also driven a GTE Ferrari for a few laps, yes that is fast and sounds great. Most decent fast cars don't do a lot of milage because well expensive. You sound like someone who lives in a whole other fantasy like world. 95% of the cars on the road are just eco turbo engines, nothing special. Including a lot of those Audi's BMW's with fake exhaust's that sound like well, you know. 300-400km range is more than enough if charging is fast enough like 15-30min. You do need to eat and I like to eat something in a restaurant when doing a holiday or have a picknick with cheese, bread etc. Not racing to destination, but have a bit of luxury while driving and the stops. So yes, this might be a great car for many people and for some it might not, then buy some much more expensive mercedes or ugly front bmw. Some just want a nicer and practical car. And to be "that" one, for around town and to do most of our shopping and bringing kids taking kids to school I have a cargo bicycle.
@loosabway34002 жыл бұрын
@@martijnvangammeren1868 Have no idea where you get the fast thing from; your imagination? Track days? No thanks. And I own 2, 50 year old cars. The fact that they are both more practical for a long journey than this and so many other EVs illustrates my point; the EV and the networks need to improve - A LOT. 300-400 km range is simply not enough, even in my small country. The charging network in the UK is a chaotic mess; there are numerous descriptions of how much stress this can and does cause here on KZbin, often posted by fans of EVs. With queuing and charging, you would potentially spend hours in the UK to recharge a vehicle on a trip; if that suits you, good luck. And as for the appalling mess I see elsewhere when travelling overseas e.g. in places like French Autoroutes; I don’t even like to think of it.

That’s a nice look car, very impressed, liked the interior and exterior, a big step up from the Zoe. But even better was that they allowed Robert to do a review, he’s the man who invented the Fully Charged show, who invented KZbin channels about EV’s, who practically invented electricity…ok that last one was a bit far fetched, but it’s great to see how far this show has come, from-twee little cartoon animation intro’s to hosting events around the world. Marvellous!

Wow, lovely car. We bought a secondhand Zoe earlier this year and thoroughly impressed with it. So much so that I think we might be looking for a Renault again not only because it is a great car but also that Renault are and have made these big steps into the EV market. There will no doubt be a huge tsunami of Chinese EV's coming over soon so I'll be happy to support our European EV producers.

@@williamarmstrong7199 I think all cars are expensive these days, but a new Golf is £24.5K, an ID.3 is £33K, so I'm going to have to do some serious miles to get my money back in 2 years. I know servicing is less and resale value will be better, but there's still £8.5K difference there.
@logicalChimp2 жыл бұрын
@@sargfowler9603 At the same time, the ID.3 is 33k, so this megane with the big battery for 35k is broadly equivalent - and I'd argue the infotainment (or rather, the lack of VW / ID.3 crapola) is worth the extra 2k :D

Charger location in the front like the ZOE makes sense, charging location near the front not much. A charge connector on the street will typically be at the left or the right of the parking space. A car with connector at the back parked backwards will easily reach the charging station even if it located at the 'wrong side'. A charging location near the front parked forwards is further from the charging station. Your cable must cross the bonnet if the charging location is on the 'wrong side'.
