poorly designed inefficient ev will not devour market. Look at native for byd chinese market, model y is still bestseller, and byd cant do anything, even with lot cheaper models
@Twin.motorsАй бұрын
@k111roy you're correct here. 90% of EV manufacturers don't focus on efficiency, that's why a 50kw model 3 beats a 85kw battery ID7 in range. I hope efficiency will be a main focus going forward
@陈俊儒-p6w29 күн бұрын
@@k111roy First of all, it's very double standard to report the good news and not the bad. The model Y is undoubtedly a success, selling 36,000 units a month in China. But the model 3 is dying next to it, with only 4000 units sold. Any mid-size sedan from BYD, han ev, seal ev, or denza's sedan, basically sells 8000 ~ 10000 units per month, easily crushing the model 3. Not to mention that there's also the Xiaomi su7 ev, which sells 20,000 units per month, and if you include the hybrid models, the han series from BYD would have already exceeded 30,000 units per month. Note that this is the same price point. How ridiculous is “byd cant do anything”. Tesla already lost in mid-size sedans. The success of model Y, I personally attribute it to three reasons. 1. the lack of real competitors in the category, so far BYD doesn't have a car that directly competes with the model Y. Other Chinese manufacturers have only launched competitors in the last couple of months, such as Huawei's luxeed R7, which has just been on sale for less than a month, and has already delivered 7,000 units so far. 2. BYD's SUVs are particularly fragmented, divided into several series: BYD's large SUV Tang series sells more than 30,000 units per month, including hybrids (not to mention that the market is waiting for the tang and han series to be renewed in Q1 next year, so their sales aren't as high as they were during their peaks), and the Yuan (also known as the atto) and the Song series, which are slightly cheaper, sell even more units.In total BYD sold 80,000 units SUV per mounth. Of course you're going to criticize them for being “too cheap”. 3. Since BYD's suvs are cheaper, let's take a look at the Ideal L8, L9, and Huawei M9, both of which come in ev and hybrid variants, cost more than twice as much as the model Y, are large SUVs, and together they sold more than 40,000 units. So what does the success of the model Y say about Tesla's competitiveness? Does it mean “BYD can't do anything”? Doubt the quality of BYD, do you know that all cabs in shenzhen are BYD since 6 years ago. Now Hong Kong introduces them, Macau introduces them. The drivers drive them well. May I ask where did you get the idea that BYD cars are of poor quality?

the NMC or NCA might offer more range but they can only be charged up to 80% most of the time unlike LFP's which can take 100% without damaging the battery or cause thermal runaway..LFP batteries are known to last at least twice longer than NMC batteries.. LFP all the way..
@maximusasauluk7359Ай бұрын
This is misleading. Any type of battery chemistry (absolutely any) will degrade faster at full charge or full discharge. This is simply how they work physically and chemically. What is true is that LFP batteries degrade at a slower rate than NMC or NCA at full charge (due to lower chemical stress). But they will still benefit in longevity from being charged only up to 80%, in fact, the perfect state of any battery, is 50% charge and 50% discharge but of course this isn't practical in real life and unnecessary with LFPs because their stability also extends to cycle life and with average use they will lose 20% of their range by the time the car is falling apart (especially with proper cooling), 15-25 years after purchase.
@Twin.motorsАй бұрын
I'm sorry but this is absolutely 100% false. ANY EV you buy you can charge to 100%. I'm on my 5th EV and they're all constantly charged at 100%. No noticeable degradation in the battery and even if there was, I couldn't care less. You bought 100% of the car so you use 100% of the car
@chriswanable29 күн бұрын
Good for you. Since this is your 5th EV it means you don't use them long enough to notice the battery degradation before you get another one, or if you bought 5 and keeping (and using) them all, you don't use them intensive enough. More people can't afford 5 EVs. So if one can only afford one and want to use it for a long time (since it's wasteful to sell them) caring for the battery is a logical decision

S7 just launched in my country MY. After viewing it today and tested. Overall still lacking from XPeng G6 (expected). In terms of charging speed, comfort, space (G6 is slightly higher) and the best would be their UI on the touch screen. Way smoother and has ease of use. All the setting can be find within the main page or the next. BYD S7 did improved as compared to Seal but still lacking behind if you compared to G6. Plus the price for S7 is higher than G6 over here. Only plus point would be the exterior design, blade type battery and rotating screen (which i felt overated haha).

To be fair, Sealion 7 is a simplified version of the Denza N7 2024, which shares almost identical specs except for the air suspension, premium interior, 90KWh battery, and lidar based autopilot. For users who was familiar with Tesla Model Y, this car is quite soft while Model Y basically is rock solid. It's good and bad at the same time. Good thing is the driver is comfortable meanwhile the bad thing is the passenger maybe experience some car sickness.

I’ve only driven the BYD Dolphin. Not one foot driving so the regen braking is almost non-existent. IMO, electric cars should be all about one foot driving. The adaptive cruise control is immature and is very inconsistent and jittery amongst traffic and the brake modulation at stop is very grabby. But overall not a bad attempt. Not sure if the Sealion has these problems too. Need to see how other Chinese brands drive such as Geely, Nio and Li Auto. Tesla Model Y is still the benchmark that all these companies are chasing. China is definitely a powerhouse when it comes to automobile industry. Looking forward to innovations in the next decade.

1:12 You claim that the Seal U is not an electric car at all but a plug-in hybrid. That's quite a glaring mistake. The "BYD Seal U" is a fully battery-electric car with either 71.8 or 87 kWh LFP batteries. You were thinking of the "BYD Seal U DM-i", which is in fact a plug-in hybrid with a 18 kWh battery and over 1000 km of stated range. Pretty big oversight.

I noticed on Fifth Gear they stated a Tesla Model 3 costs &48k in pounds while in Australia they cost A$55k. You could buy one from Australia and ship one over and still be thousands ahead. Why are Tesla's so expensive in the UK.

1/2 tonne heavier and significantly less range ? Model Y is still the one to beat. And the 0-60 time on the boot is just juvenile.

Models with number as postfix is a PHEV. Eg. Shark is BEV, Shark 6 is PHEV Similarly Sealion is BEV and Sealion 6 and 7 are PHEV. Difference in numbering probably differentiates trim level, or LHD 7 from RHD 6

I have driven this car. Brakes are very predictable. Seats are comfortable. Boot is too shallow for 2 large suitcases. 520 HP is too much for public roads when using the sport setting. 360 degree cameras are OK. Problem: expensive option is the removable towing hook - not good for a car in this class. Driving position for short people is not good. Suspension unsettled on motorway when cruising near 110kph (70mph).
@Matt-li6gnАй бұрын
Its not confusing once you understand the China buckets these cars as NEVs or New Energy Vehicles. The distinction is environmentally driven and segregates full petrol/diesel traditional ICE from cars that are better for the environment including hybrids. Kinda like you wouldn't say a turbo charged car is a different category from regular aspirated cars.

@MGriff-q1iАй бұрын
It is to see a BYD without the over the top design. Someone at BYD must have found the memo that said:”All emphasis is no emphasis” which is apparently a key design principle if you want to sell cars in the EU 🙂↔️😳. I still don’t like the marine animals link. In the back of my mind a little voice keeps saying: ‘handles like a beached whale’, which is a common description of the essential handling characteristics of people movers or seven seater vans. Why BYD? What is the brand image your naming of cars is trying to establish? This car looks really nice, inside and out. That is a big improvement but if I am hearing correctly, it prioritises ‘comfort’ over dynamics and that is usually code for the “B” word. [Boring!] and that is a pity.

@whatcarАй бұрын
Max. 11kW on three-phrase for all versions. Hope this helps.
The tesla is lighter also because it hasn't got much in it I'm afraid... you are carring a lot of comfort features in the BYD that all add weight and reduce range at the same time. 1 thing though, Teslas and some other EVs that use NCM batteries are only recommended to be charged to 80% then use it to 20% for regular use so the realistic useable range of only 60%. BYD LFP batteries can be charged all the way to 100% all the time and use all the way to 10%.
