«Simple» effective design. Good project! Yes, I have a boom arm, but will be building a longer one like yours. It’s one of the best things you can do to your shop after getting things off the floor.. putting the vac up is also a great idea.

Wow! I definitely want to make one!

You should! I wish I had did it sooner and you could pull it off in less than a day, even when cutting everything out without a CNC

Thanks, you will love it, makes a big difference for sure. You will have to put some screws into that new drywall though!

Making things more efficient is the way to go! There are a lot of really good books that can help with lean manufacturing like “The Goal” and “The Toyota Way”. I just put an air hose reel, a power cord reel, and my heater all on the ceiling and it’s amazing what a little improvements can do for efficiency.

Fun fact I left Toyota corporate HQ to start woodworking full time 15 years ago. Toyota way is engrained in my head. I have found it more valuable now that I am in business than when I was working for Toyota. Your exactly right little improvements can make a huge difference!

Hi, What hose are you using?
@tylercousins777914 күн бұрын
In case you haven’t used one before, try using a 1/4 inch narrow crown stapler for your assembly. You would not have had to screw this together and it would’ve held together on its own before you had your curved peace in. Yes, they make it slightly larger hole than a brad nail but it’s definitely a lot smaller than a screw and a lot less chance of splitting the wood than the screw and it removes the whole step of pre-drilling and screwing it together.

Totally agree with you and that it would work, I wanted to show this method as many probably don't have a crown stapler.

Put the top bracket up first,, slide on the boom and clamp below it to keep it on then do the lower clamp.
@fultonfinewoodworks10 күн бұрын
Lots of ways to do it for sure, ceiling height and a lot of variables determine best for each person, it's very light and we had two people so this allowed us to verify exactly where we wanted it height wise. If it was just me would of went more towards that method.

@@fultonfinewoodworks I was offering a thought - not judging! Not being there means I don't know all of the details of the moment :) I've got some nice ideas from your build for when I get far enough into my workshop creation to warrant having one! THanks :)

So if you had say a 5000 SF shop with numerous machines, would you still use this type of a system?
@fultonfinewoodworks15 күн бұрын
Yes for sure, I still have larger machines on a central dust collection system but for bench work this is great. Applying this same concept to our boat build area will help out every time we are working on it. Was such a pain pulling it around and dealing with the hose.

This kinda reminds me of the ol" Steve Martin joke: "How to pay no taxes when you are a millionaire. First...get a million dollars. Now...". Yeah, how to built this and save yourself trouble? First get a very expensive AND large tool. I know, not the same but still...
@fultonfinewoodworks14 күн бұрын
I used my CNC to cut it out, but it could easily be cut out with a circular saw, hole saw would just take more time. My main goal was to relay the method of hanging without expensive hardware and it works great.
