I do watch a lot of wood working videos with my wife and children in the room. I very much appreciate the clean but very humerus dialogue. You inspire me to make something.

This makes so much more sense than the three shop vacs that I currently have in use!!! I guess that my wife is getting a vacuum for her birthday!! A reconditioned vac... but it's the thought that counts, right?
@WhosTheVoss5 ай бұрын
Its totally the thought that counts! 🤣🤣 David on the Make Something channel has like 5 dust collectors to avoid the pipes, its quite interesting

@@FounderOf4 here is a idea! I bought a harbor freight 2hp and totally rearranged it. Using the already existing cyclone I bought a plastic 55 gal drum and heavy chips drop into it. Piped the exhaust out a window. Used sewer pipe with wyes and cheap blast gates to the other end of the shop. No 45 degrees only street sweeps. Now on the opposite end I’m going to connect another harbor freight dust collection (smaller 1hp) but connect it blowing towards the 2hp. This should increase the flow. I only have 4 wyes off the whole system. Using 4” sewer pipe. Rockler carries sewer pipe connections. It can always be expanded off of as needed. It’s powerful enough but why not try it.

Thanks buddy! I also dislike the silent youtube builds! But hey, since you already paid them though watching ads during their video, you might as well fork out the extra $10 for their plans! 😂😂 (Sarcasm) I make $7-$9 per thousand views, its more than my 9-5 job pays me. Thanks buddy :)

I did something similar to this on a way smaller scale, over my work bench, with a 3 panel LED light on it so i can see what im doing when hand planing or chiseling. My shed is built from pallets stacked on end, and is only 8' x 12' so my shop vac hose reaches EVERYWHERE hahaha.

Not many videos out there on boom arms. Good job! Your design gave good ideas. I planned on building one myself. Thought I’d do mine I beam style. Going to use a 4 inch swivel caster wheel as my hinge. I’m only going to use Rockler 1 1/2 quick connector flex hose and run a retractable extension cord off mine. Might build to short ones. Great idea bud! Keep the builds coming!!
@WhosTheVoss5 ай бұрын
Im diggin those ideas!! :) thanks buddy

What's the difference between boom and beam? Is it where the arm is mounted, like wall vs ceiling?
@scottbyrd21575 ай бұрын
@@FounderOf4 the arm is built like a i beam. Drill or cut out material to lighten it. Either way is good.
@FounderOf45 ай бұрын
@@scottbyrd2157 Gotta.. I beam instead of a tunnel. Add in retractable air hose and extension cords and LIFE IS GOOOOOOOD! Thank you gents, all of that is eye opening for me

On your hinge, why not screw in the brackets from the backside, which would hide all fasteners and avoid the need for pocket holes?
@WhosTheVoss2 ай бұрын
Since it is plywood, it has a better chance of splitting out the hinges when drilled through the back, the pocket holes help me sleep better at night :)

Only change I would make is using some fender washers or large metal in between the wood to prevent wear out. Other than that, this is great
@WhosTheVoss5 ай бұрын
Oooo that would have been a good idea, and help with spinning it around. I added washers to the fan I built a swivel for on the ceiling, slipped my mind on this one :P

Hey, man, I just found your channel and like this boom concept. In fact, I've been drawing one up with a similar design for connecting to the wall. But I was planning to use a pipe instead of a dowel. I like the dowel direction. Are you getting much sag at all? I plan to make mine about 7 feet long and more of a trough instead of enclosing the top. Of course, the top would be enclosed for some distance from the swivel mechanism. In addition to dust collection (I bought the same hose from Amazon that you're using), it will have a power cord for my DeWalt orbital sander, and an air hose. Advice would be much appreciated. Thanks so much.
@WhosTheVoss4 ай бұрын
No sag yet! If you have the space, mount a light underneath, that was a cool idea somebody told me. And tunning the electrical cord is a good idea too!

Your tube has two 90 degree bends. You might want to try to make an angle on each end to reduce the severity of those bends. I like your presentation without annoying music.
@WhosTheVoss5 ай бұрын
Thanks Richard! I gotta figure out how to keep the end curved since the weight of the hose pulls on it. Might add a 6" screw at an angle with a zip tie 🤷♀️

Is that the video where the bird is climbing the cliff and he’s planting a bunch of trees and then he gets to the top of the cliff and he jumps off like he’s flying because he has those little runty wings? And then as he’s falling down the cliff, the camera pans 90° or rotates and it looks like he’s flying through the trees.

I feel like you're losing a lot of suction power by running that long of a hose to a Shop Vac. Also, get a cyclone. They're cheap, and you want one.
