It was a Tuesday evening like any other; Matri and Nicholas Molver came home to their flat in Durban and spent a quiet evening together before going to bed. But they never woke up. Hours earlier, in the flat next door a man claiming to be a pest control operator had fumigated the flat against wood borer. But no one in the complex had been warned. An investigation found that a dangerous poison, one used to kill rats in grain silos, had been spread throughout the flat. Not registered for use in indoor fumigation, the consequences were deadly. Months later, the victims’ family wants justice.

Nicholas Molver was an amazing man, always there for his family. This is a tragic story, but what makes it worse is that Mr. Khan doesn't even show any remorse for what has happened (despite what his mother claims). He couldn't even apologize or seem ashamed of taking the lives of the 2 most genuine people in this world. He is just concerned about the "stress" that he is under for the murder of my cousin and his wife. He stole their lives. Mr. Khan deserves to be put in jail. If SAPS does not follow through with this arrest, it will be a disgusting injustice to Aunty Zoe, Luke, and Matthew, and every Molver family member, as well as any person who ever had the pleasure of meeting Nick and Matri. 😢

Shocking and dreadful that two beautiful young people should have been killed by criminal carelessness. Misuse of deadly chemicals in an apartment building is clearly a matter for the police and the courts, and I hope this hard-hitting Carte Blanche investigation brings the Molver family the justice they so urgently need. There were many cases like this in Dubai a couple of years ago. The Dubai authorities stepped in quite strongly to fix the problem, I can’t remember exactly but certain fumigants were made illegal and pest control companies have to be licensed. It was very upsetting because whole families perished because the poisonous gasses travelled through air conditioning ducts. It’s very sad all my condolences to the family and I hope they get justice.

I am a registered pest control operator that does practical training for those seeking to apply for registration with the department of agriculture. I am concerned that many unscruprious individuals with a PCO registration that ate signing of those wanting to apply for a PCO registration for an amount of money without them having done any practical training . This is an illegal and dangerous practice that needs to be investigated and stopped by the department of agriculture. Those found guilty should face a jail sentence

My heartfelt condolences to the family. Sheer ignorance by the workers employed & greed are both on display. The excessive amount used & quick strewing of the pellets is absolutely apparent. I am appalled. Residents in the flat block should always be notified that fumigation is in process with sign boards indicating which flat/apartment is being treated & which firm is involved plus the safety period. involved. Aluminium Phosphide'. A fumigant used for the control of pests in stored agricultural food products, maize, wheat, sorghum, groundnuts, soya beans, sunflower seed, barley, oats, rye, nuts, dried fruit, tobacco and farinaceous products, (as well as rodents), with a low residual effect according to the manufacturers.

This sort of thing, where un- or underqualified fly-by-night operators cause irreparable harm, is the direct result of the ANC’s spectacular failure to sustain and grow the South African economy; more correctly, it’s the ANC’s spectacular success at shrivelling the economy through corruption, theft, incompetence, apathy, and conceit. As a matter of fact, said fly-by-nights have taken many of their crooked cues from the ANC’s standard practices. When people are struggling and hungry, they will resort to any means to survive. This is not to excuse their conduct, merely to illuminate its origins.
