Fumigation with Acetic Acid

This video demonstrates how to use highly concentrated 80% glacial acetic acid for fumigation of old brood comb prior to giving them to a new hive.
Fumigation is used commonly in Europe and Canada, and is mentioned in the classic beekeeping text book: "The Hive and Honey Bee" but despite this many beekeepers in the US are unfamiliar with how to use it. Fumigation destroys Nosema and amoebiasis spores, it also kills the eggs and larvae of wax moths and small hive beetles.
By fumigating your old comb from hives that died, you are less likely to spread disease to your other colonies. If allowed to air out before giving the combs to the new bees, it will not leave any residue in the beeswax or comb (unlike wax moth crystals and some other treatments).
Glacial acetic acid is however a highly corrosive and potentially dangerous acid which is why precautions MUST be taken to prevent getting any acid on your skin or in your eyes.
