Master (Teacher-Sensei) Fumio Demura passed away on the morning of Monday, April 24th, 2023. This marks the end of an era for Japan Karate Federation, and the beginning of a new one. Sensei Demura, thank you for everything you taught about the martial arts, rest in peace, and I hope to see you again in the afterlife.

So sad he has passed away. Those who trained under this great man of martial arts were very fortunate indeed. RIP Master Demura 🙏🙏🙏🙏❤️🌹🥲

I met Demura-sensei in about 1984 or 1985. I had one of the books he'd written and he autographed it for me.

I STUDIED WITH HIM IN SANTA ANA! AS A SENSEI HE'S TOUGH BUT GREAT, i LEARNED SO MUCH! I'VE HAD SO MANY "BRUTAL" WORKOUTS DOING Shitō-ryū (糸東流) IT'S SO COOL..., AND..., FIERCE! YOU CAN DO SO MUCH WITH IT, REMINDS ME OF Jeet Kune Do ! LEARN IT WELL, PRACTICE LIKE HELL, THEN START TO EXPAND IT USING VARIOUS OTHER PARTS OF DIFFERENT STYLES! YOU WOULDN'T BELIEVE SOME OF THE STORIES OF SOME OF MY WORKOUTS! INTENSE WOULD BE SUCH AN UNDERSTATEMENT!! A FRIEND AND I USED TO ROCK CLIMB AND WORKOUT TOGETHER! WE WOULD ROLL INTO ANY CITY USA AND PICK BUILDINGS TO CLIMB FOR PRACTICE! A MIX BETWEEN SPIDERMAN, A NINJA AND ETHAN HUNT!! THOSE WERE THE DAYS MY FRIEND! RIP BRUCE LEE "I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times." "Showing off is the fool's idea of glory."

Agreed... Sensei Demura was my first Martial Arts instructor when I was 12 yrs old... When I practiced under him starting in '68-'69, we were taught to stop our punches and kicks about a half inch or less from impacting our partner... Accidents did happen on occasion though... We were also taught that our true striking point was the opposite side of the body from that which we could see... A lifetime of practicing Martial Arts... And Demura Sensei stands alone as my most Honored and Respected instructor... Wade

I remember seeing a picture of Fumio Demura on the cover of Black Belt Magazine in the early 1960's. He was holding two sais. I still have thzt magazine.

Sensei Demura taught a very small class at the Berkeley Ca. YWCA. It was the late 60's to early 70's. I was taught shotokan Katas Heain 1-5 and Tekki 1. I would really like him to know what he has done for me. My dog; a little Rocky's name is Tekki B

he may be a round one, but he can still kick quite flexibly, and maintain height after throw. which itself is an amazing feat.

Eu não conhecia esse incrível mestre de karate-Do, o verdadeiro mestre Myagi, até o Bruce Lee treinou com ele. Tem até um documentario sobre a história dele no Netflix

I wonder at Fumio Demura was attacked in the street?

I wonder what would happen if daveshen0880 was attacked in the street? Why? I don't know, apparently it's somehow en vogue to ask stupid random questions.
@daveshen08807 жыл бұрын
Yes. I've been attacked by two teenagers, they were rude to me, I punched them in they faces and they fled.

MJ nice of you to take someone else’s work and present it as your own.

Too bad whoever made the video had to be rude and put the hourific/title "shihan" before Demura Shihan's name. :-(

The narrate cannot pronounce noonchook properly, either (the final letter is silent)
@KaptainCanuck8 жыл бұрын
Yes, I would. I also agree the content is important but combined with proper respect for the culture, as well.

+Kyosa Canuck In the Netflix documentary "The Real Miyagi," hear Fumio Demura himself pronounce "nunchaku" around the 36 minute mark.
@msnewcomb17 жыл бұрын
It hurts the ears! As does hearing "Sensei" + First name or last name. It is not about pronunciation, but about simply knowing proper etiquette concerning the subject you are exposing.

Kyosa Canuck it is pronounced nunchucku nothing is silent...
