I have used older style for 4+ years with no issues. It took only 2 oil changes with my River Raider skids to add this. Very simple to use and no mess!

Hey good video but 2 things you need to point out here: 1) There are adapters available to push the valve out in case you need to change the orientation of the valve so it doesn't point down (you know, for safety reasons) and 2) You can hook up a hose on short nipple valves like this SX but you need to but their Hose Kit because it has plastic attachments so the hose stays in place. They also sell this metal hose attachments in straight and 90 degree so it's very convenient and you can remove them when finishing draining the oil so there you have it!

You don't need the clip. It'd be a wild magic if a flying rock flips that open. And if you do hit something that cause the valve to flip open, that means you already hit your oil pan. I've used the valve for over 70k miles, without the clip.

4:13 that's incorrect, he shows a threaded section of about 1/2" but you wouldn't have a 1/2" as the threaded plug of Fumoto would only block the amt of oil obstructed from the distance the Fumoto plug extends into the interior and above the existing pan threaded depth. The original plug he shows looks like it has a magnetic tip that is about 1/4" so the disadvantage of the Fumoto plug is that you do not have the magnet at the top of the plug. Also with this model plug besides the actual plug threads there is a sleight possibility of a leak developing overtime at the rotating contact surfaces of the valve which appears to have a rubber O ring that could wear or flatten out over time although this probably wouldn't be a problem as once it is installed in the best position you may never actually have to loosen it or remove it again.

I was about to buy a Fumoto valve for my friend's new CR-V that I service. Your tip about the threaded end of the valve extending into the pan was a deal breaker for me. The CR-V holds less then 4 quarts of oil; leaving oil in the pan is unacceptable. Thank you.
@jimwalsh70884 жыл бұрын
In actuality, most of the threaded nipple on the valve is needed to thread into the threaded collar of your oil pan. There will be only a 1/4 " maximum dam (probably less) that holds back some of the oil. If you are that concerned about draining all the oil, you can saw or grind away some of the nipple on the Fumoto valve before installing it.

As far as the valve end sticking too far into the pan, when oil is done draining out, just keep some inexpensive fresh oil around and pour into the engine and let it drain out the valve taking the old oil with it if it really is a concern.
@coolHandLuke51507 жыл бұрын
If you are worried about that little bit of oil left it in the pan. Simply jack the rig up at an angle to get around that.
@philc.92805 жыл бұрын
the amount of oil left in the pan in negligible if you change your oil regularly

While I don't have that valve I do have the Rock Hard skids on my 2015. You will likely have to run the valve the way you have it positioned at the end of the video and run the tube out the side towards the crossmember that the skids bolt to. You might get by if the hose is flexible enough to bend back around to the access cover port without popping off the valve (zip tie might hold it on temporarily for the change). FYI the skid on mine is about 1 - 1.5" below the drain plug and the front edge of the access hole is in line where the oil drip drip drips when the pan is nearly empty. A follow up vid would be great when you get the skids installed with a view of the valve in relation to the skid.

Really cool idea, but like we used to say in the military too many moving parts leads to failure. Great review though.

Not worth taking the chance of it getting ripped out by a log or something else. Or maybe someone who wants to play a sick joke gets under the jeep with no tools and opens the valve. These engines can run 7,000 miles between oil changes what's the big deal in taking a minute to unscrew the oil drain plug?
@JdA2107 жыл бұрын
Ace Calzadilla. Great point about how many times you need to take it off. Wat maybe 1-2 times a year.
@o3djeeps7 жыл бұрын
Ace Calzadilla the issue isn't draining the oil with the OEM plug, it's providing easier access for the new skid plates. First...the skid will completely cover the plug area, so nothing will be exposed. second, if someone's willing to drain my oil as a sick joke...I'm pretty sure that 13mm socket isn't going to stand in their way! lol
@o3djeeps7 жыл бұрын
Joshua Almendarez many folks running skid systems that make oil changes a real pain. This is the solution to that problem. if you don't have that problem, then the solution may not make sense to you.
@acecalzadilla68787 жыл бұрын
That's true but definitely no 13mm socket needed if someone wants to play a joke with this option. Take pictures of how it looks after the skid plate install, I can see how this would save you the hassle of using a 13mm socket.

With all the talk about the threaded portion not allowing oil to fully drain out, why can’t a small cut be made into the threads to give a lower point in which the oil could drain out?

Is removing the drain plug really that difficult? Maybe you save 1 minute of your oil change and you can’t use your favorite ratchet
@jimwalsh70884 жыл бұрын
After performing hundreds of oil changes, I have never found a way to remove the plug without spilling some oil especially the 0W-20 oil that flows like water and splashes out of the drain pan. The Fumoto saves me a minimum of 5 minutes on cleanup and transfer of oil from the drain pan into a container.
@meanmelvin6262 жыл бұрын
@@jimwalsh7088 That about sums it up Jim. You’re trading a little bit of oil left in the pan for an easier cleanup. Up to the individual owner on what side of that fence to be on.
