Just to add , the red wire running up the camera line back to the head unit is a trigger to tell the HU to go to camera screen. Especially in the case of an android HU.

I upgraded the battery and generator cables on both of my Jeeps, one purchased, the other from scratch. The only tricky part was finding all the ground connections.

Nice that it doesn't need ground. I didn't see that one coming. Recommend people test this before they screw everything down or cut wires off, I think this is a YMMV situation. You want the screen to immediately show backup camera when you shift in reverse. Some people have a head unit that will allow you to switch to Reverse Camera input manually. - Reverse only: power from the reverse lights or trailer plug. Convenience wire to the backup wire on the head unit. - Reverse and manual on. 1) Some modern vehicles (CAN bus) provide a backup signal from the internal computer - wire Accessory only on the head unit along convenience wire to the camera power. If not, you may have to run an extra wire from the 12v accessory wire on the head unit to the positive wire connected to camera. Convenience wire positive has to be connected to Backup on head unit to positive on trailer or reverse lights for triggering the backup screen when in reverse.

To bad you didn’t use real batteries or at least be clear on which tray the main batteries sat in. To much hand jesters mad it more confusing. But thanks for at least giving it a try.

You are the GOAT! I learned so much. I bought two replacement actuators but neither would retain the brass slider so I removed it. I remnantled without the last spring as well and it works beautifully.( proof that sometimes you don’t need all the parts) Ok, the steering doesn’t lock but what do I need that for anyway?

HOW, HOW, HOW does the 'head unit' KNOW when the car is in reverse, if you pull power from the head unit????!!!
@o3djeeps

Head unit has access to obdii data which it can use to know when the car is in reverse or park or a driving gear and behaves accordingly.

I have this annoying problem with my Nissan. Same thing when are I’m driving from 10 to about 30 mph I hear the chirp. It’s very rhythmic depending on the speed. A little bit of metallic sounding. I took it to Nissan. They charged me $200 to diagnose it and told me it’s a belt. My other mechanic said he’s not sure why it’s doing it and I should take it to Nissan. I took it back to Nissan and they want to charge me another $200 to rediagnose it.. it’s really annoying, and I still haven’t figured out what it is. Weird thing is sometimes it does it, and sometimes it doesn’t. When I took it to another mechanic again, the noise was gone. Later that day the noise came back. I’m about to just throw the whole car in a volcano.
