FUN and UNUSUAL tips and tricks for training BACK UP

A dog training tutorial on how to MASTER back up. With tips and tricks you might never have seen before! My favorite being the tip from British Dog Trainer Kay Laurence of using a chair to initially get the offering of the behavior. Get your dog backing up like a star! If your dog is struggling however it can be due to structure or something physical so check with a physical therapist to see what the issue is and sometimes backing up is one of the exercises that will benefit your dogs health and physical fitness!

Thank you for the work you're doing!! I recently started a passion project where I go to a local shelter and make videos of the dogs and post them on social media to hopefully help get the word out and help them get adopted. There are SO MANY sweet babies out there who just need a chance. The likelihood of finding a perfectly trained dog anywhere isn't great, but they just need to be given the chance to learn. I taught one puppy to sit in under 10 minutes while filming. These dogs are so smart 🥺 What you're doing is awesome! 💕

Social media is fantastic way of getting the word out, it also really brings out a dog's true personality since they can be scared or reactive in their kennels. And yes they are super smart. My first dog I helped train was adopted today fingers crossed it works out as he struggles with dog reactivity. But I taught him sit, down, stay, come, paw, place, and he was learning spin, back up, and look at me before he left. He learned all this pretty solidly in only about two and a half weeks! He was a young Pittie mix, now I'm trying a more challenging 5 year old Border Collie mix, he knows 0 commands as of right now but I hope to change that very soon. 😊

Dog reactivity is definitely a tough one to fix, but it can be done with lots of consistent training by the dog's family 🥰 Good luck with the border collie! Sounds like you're a great trainer, so I'm sure you can do it! 😊

So so so glad this video popped up in my feed!!! My dude has known how to back up away from me since he was a puppy. It's very 2nd nature now. I can't say the same, however, about backing up in other ways. I've been trying to work on it for a couple months now, but just was not getting very far. As soon as I got done watching this video, I tried again using the techniques you showed...I got more progress in those 5 minutes than I had in the past 2 months!!! Seriously can't thank you enough!!

That is cute 🥰 my puppy does it on his own if he doesn’t want to do things he want to do. 😂he does in away that he looks like he dancing backwards. Or backs up to get your attention too 😂 . But it’s still cute to teach and see them do it. ❤

I tried everything in this video and my dog is very determined to sit instead of moving backwards. I did all the hints given. He's being very quick to sit...even though he walks backwards with me when on heel...that is until I tried these tricks. Now he wants to sit, and that is IT.

I suggest simply feeding him and not training, so put a treat between his paws, then toss one 2 inches further between his paws, so he keeps having to back a little to eat them and not sit, do this while you are crouched infront of him then progress to standing then crouching, you can also feed him for just standing in front of you too. if he sits , just make a noise to get his attention and back away from him until he stands, then continue to reinforce standing and then backing up to eat a treat, and when he stops sitting, then you can say, the new cue to back up before throwing the treat, then the next step is pretending to toss the treat and adding on that
