Wow! This video is EXACTLY what I needed to see! I have a 9-week old puppy about the same size and have been training with her food. This cleared up so many questions that have come up over the last week of having her. I’m so grateful! I’m also not sure about her name and I was afraid I was causing her some kind of existential angst or something by not having given her a name yet.

You are so inspiring, Emily! I am so happy this little boy found a home with you and your other dogs!! I have always felt that animals perceive our energy and intentions even before we say a word. By holding the mental/emotional image of what you'd like them to do, as an invitation rather than an imposition, you can have wondrous breakthroughs...just as with people!! You have such a caring and loving aura, no wonder how calm and sweet are your dogs!! 💜

Fantastic video, this is the sort of thing I feel like most puppy owners need direction on, specifically, how should a training session for a puppy look. I feel like it's way too easy to under-appreciate how much progress comes from regular sessions like this at a young age.

I loooove your videos, I always learn something new or get a reminder of something important, Em I have a question, a fellow trainer told me that I should take into consideration the fact that if the dog that I'm training doesn't have a marker for when he/she is doing something wrong, that it could increase his/her frustration when he/she doesn't understand why he/she is not getting the reward, I've never seen you using the word no with your dogs or doing this, do you think it would help to have that kind of marker? I feel a bit confused about that because it seems to me like a hot and cold sort of thing, I'd very much appreciate your intake on the subject, thank you! 😁 🐾

My Bernese Mountain Dog puppy comes home at 8 weeks old in 5 days! I cant wait and your videos have been preparing me for whats to come so thank you sooo much! I do have a question - I notice you are just enforcing behaviors in this video without any commands associated with that behavior. Why is that exactly? How will the dog know what you want him to do without the commands? Thank you!
@kikopup
@kikopup 3 жыл бұрын
Thats a good question! If you watch my hands, my hands are giving visual signals. So you can turn the luring gestures into visual signals, and then add a verbal signal when you see the behavior start to happen reliably. Here is a video of me training my chihuahua puppy and removing the lure and adding the verbal cue kzbin.info/www/bejne/qoKzpJd7edqErck Also we can reinforce behaviors such as waiting patiently for being told what to do. So when the dog sees me sitting there talking to the camera, or perhaps if you were a new puppy owner, talking to the neighbour while on a leash walk and we feed the puppy BEFORE they think to do other stuff like biting us or barking for attention when bored, we start to reinforce just waiting patiently and that becomes more likely to happen the next time you stop and talk to a neighbor or for me, when I talk to the camera.

How many of these sessions do you do a day?
@eggo7126
@eggo7126 3 жыл бұрын
I know i’m not the poster, but with my BC puppy after every nap we’d do a 5-10 minute session and spend the rest of the time playing. But this is just for structured lessons. Teaching leave it, drop it is an active all time thing and making sure pups know what they can and cannot interact with is a daily 24/7 thing. A lot of work, but it pays off after that first year is up!
@kikopup
@kikopup 3 жыл бұрын
well today this was the only training session, because I have a lot of dogs, there is a lot of management training, so feeding for ignoring wish and halo playing with their frisbees and then just interacting with the puppy, not training but calmly interacting. I generally do about 5-10 mins of training a day with my dogs. Sometimes just a tiny 2 min session but with a puppy at least 5 mins total a day, if I cant think of anything to train I work on handling grooming or balance work
@RobBCactive
@RobBCactive 3 жыл бұрын
With a lone puppy the answer that has more short training, then play is IMHO more practical. If you don't actively lead, they will find ways to grab attention and burn their energy. The other dogs will be trainers too!

So I'm about halfway through the video (when you start moving the leash around). If the dog is calm, what would be the default reaction from them since he seems more calm than I'm imaging most new puppies would be. Also, you stated that this session is long because you are talking, how long would they normally be and how many exercises would be in each? Lastly, as you are cycling through various exercises on any given day, when do you return to a given exercise?

Wonderful video! Ok today is the first day I'm starting this training session! I would like to ask your opinion on something. Every night at about 11-12 or even 1 o clock my puppy wakes up and gets super energetic running around, zoomies, banging on furniture, biting the couch, biting me aggressively if I get in his way. This may stop at about 2 or even 3 am. I live at an apartment so I will probably get kicked out if this continues to go on. My puppy is 2,5 month's old and I adopted him about 10 days ago. Could you please suggest what to do or even tell me what videos of yours to check out? Excuse my English! Respect and love from Greece.

@@yiannoulaa.6580 This is probably why its so extreme. I suggest going to an empty car parking lot to go for walks. Or walk places dogs do not frequent. Basically you need your puppy to stay away from places where dogs and wild animals have been, but not people. I suggest also going for walks where you carry your puppy and then put the puppy down on a blanket as this is perfectly fine to do as no diseases will get to your puppy in the air or sitting on a blanket. This way you can socialize your puppy. Also your puppy can be with fully vaccinated dogs, so you can visit the yards of friends with adult vaccinated dogs that are friendly, they can keep them on leash if you are unsure. And you can also visit the houses and yards of people with no dogs! :) kzbin.info/www/bejne/moaXpZmFmbmppKc Heres a video on socializing during the times of covid

How do you train him to be calm around your other dogs, my puppy is very excited when she sees my older dog who doesn't really like her, so what I do is keep them in separate rooms and then do settles together a few times a day but it doesn't feel quite right or enough.

I suggest that you dont let them play. I have a dog Wish who is scared when dogs go near her face as well as when they use their mouth to play, So I just let my puppy play with the dogs who like it and with dogs who dont, I work on games of just settling together, walking together without bothering eachother, taking turns taking treats, and I interrupt every time the puppy goes for the other dog. Its harder if they have already played a bit.. its much easier to start if they never got to play. But just keep it up. What can happen is around 6-9 months when the puppy is more adult they might start to play and bond more but I would just teach them to ignore eachother for now, or at least during the puppy teeth phase!
