Would love to see how to teach the cues of close, go sniff etc. we’re working on loose leash walking and hitting the end of leash (from your vids) but I want to let her do sniffy walks as well. Do we need to know loose leash well before these cues?

What an amazing actor!! I’ll bet you can relate to this, tho: I can’t call this one “bang” or “play dead.” I have to call it “Oh, you look tired…SO tired…” and then Trip goes flat and still, tail & all. For naming this trick and acting it out, that’s all my heart can stand! 🐕🥹💖😂

I heard someone say play possum, so think that's a bit nicer than play dead, right?

I taught my dachshund this when I was 13. At the time it was just funny. 25 years later I’m a dog trainer and see that’s it pretty cool we were able to figure that out together.

My 7 month old cries for a bit when I leave. I try very hard to make it a good experience with kongs or puzzle toys every single time I'm gone. I can see on my camera that he eats the kongs just fine but when they're finished ~10 minutes later, he always cries a bit. Not for long but still. I'd think he wouldn't even remember I left 10 minutes later.

Doesn't matter how many treats i have, what tone i call him as soon as my dog sees the leash he won't come within 5 meters. No matter what, i can roll on the ground in the happiest voice and it doesn't change a thing

This is why the majority of horse riders make me pissed. They use bits, whips, crops, spurs, and other abusive techniques to "train" the horses, then they wonder why their horse bucked, or why their horse runs from them, why their horse bolts, and a lot of other things. I'd bolt too if my abuser was coming close to me!

I LOVE sniffy walks! I find them so valuable. Also, what are the black boxes in the middle of the larger dog's leashes?

Hi, thanks for your video! I have a problem with this approach, though: my puppy is completely ignoring any noises and just takes a toy, lays down and starts chewing it. I can't figure out how to make him come to me. Any advice? Thank you!

When my kelpie pup (14 months) sees something approaching from a distance, he crouches down or lies down. Usually he just stands up and wants to play and say hi when whatever it is gets to us. Sometimes, though, especially if he is not on leash, he will stalk towards it and I can't get him to recall. How do I get him to stop doing this? Like you said, as a herding breed, he gets more startled by someone suddenly appearing out of nowhere than he does in a parking lot with many cars and people. His crouching behavior is way more likely in an empty park or trail when someone comes around a corner at a distance ahead of us.

I just saw a deer urinate in my backyard like it's a nature preserve. Where I live deers now roam in small hordes and we can't shoot them on sight. Now, assuming your dog plays in the backyard, you get the idea.

Makes a nice change to see other trainers supporting the need to pick up small dogs sometimes if the need arises - they DO need to be sometimes to stay safe in a big dog and a big person world :-)

This happens pretty often, my dog is fearful of my grandfather but I think he actually trusts me to an extent. I definitely find myself extremely upset or frustrated when I cannot get him back. I know I need to keep my emotions in check while dealing with it. He is such a great dog otherwise

Why are you demonstrating your method for training aggressive or reactive dogs with your own dog that does not have aggressive or reactive issues?
@kikopup6 күн бұрын
I’m making an educational video where I’m talking so I can show what I do without it being too much for the dog with me talking to the camera. I do have 1 dog in the video that’s not mine but I generally don’t have clients dogs on social media. I do have a few accretions kzbin.info/www/bejne/o3PCnpaqapiAe5Isi=ZCiUVlrYwxDX8Oj1 my protocol video and kzbin.info/www/bejne/bJu8l36BZpyNeNUsi=V9xer4P13d84hbMX with my friends rescue Rottie with a bite history who had been rescued from an abusive situation. The method is done where the dog never goes over threshold. I do have a reactivity dvd on my website through Tawzer that has clients dogs in, but I do not have clients dogs on social media. I focused on working with reactive and aggressive dogs at the beginning of my career when there where no other +r trainers out there to refer to. A handful of my trick videos with other dogs are actually dogs with bite histories but they are in my trick videos. Now I don’t see many clients at all in the last 2 years because I have an issue with my vestibular system where I fall over suddenly. So not so great for working with fearful dogs or dogs with bite histories. My start to my career was just kennel worker but during that time I got a lot of experience with thousands of dogs in a closed facility the ones that were new intakes the sick and the ones who failed their behavioral tests, so I learned so much there I think everyone should work and volunteer at shelters with the behavioral cases there for a few years to learn about dog behavior and how to handle all different kinds of dogs

I love to take my boy (large standard poodle) out on sniffy walks and he’s overall well-mannered on-leash, but he is reactive when he sees other dogs. Can you please do a video about this? I only do R+ training and try to mitigate the issue by turning him around if I see another dog coming, or having him play with me and/or do cues for treats as a distraction if I can’t. This behavior is more frequent in suburban or on trails, but happens less is busier urban environments and in stores, where he acts neutral. I’d love to hear your advice on this topic. Thanks!

I found this video after about 3 months of dealing with my puppy being less than respectful of our 3 other dogs, but even though I wish I had seen it sooner im really thankful I saw it at all. This method is working great and im very optimistic for my pups/dogs future together, thank you Kikopup!
