Excellent and amusing. The safety break on the first lift was great. It would be very interesting to find out if you actually get something different with those split hotels. The Pod looks really cool.

Unfortunately, the co-branding of hotels in the same building has become increasingly common since 2020. For Marriott, Moxy and Residence Inn are often in the same building. Hilton also has something similar. For the extra 100 GBP, Crowne Plaza offers higher brand standards. You get a better/larger room and more amenities, such as the cuck chair, which the HIX rooms do not have, and you should have a better outside view (if applicable). Obviously, they're aiming at corporate travelers, where the company pays.
@benolifts2 ай бұрын
I personally didn't see much difference to justify the extra £100 for the Crown Plaza. Nowadays there are so many hotels all catering for the same part of the market, of the around £200 price point. This area of the market seems over saturated with far too many hotels, yet people like myself struggle to find a hotel that I can afford. I guess business travellers don't care about the price. I feel that hotels are price fixing nowadays. Prices have gone up faster than inflation. I can now no longer afford any of the brand name hotels. I can only afford hostels and small scale privately run hotels, and even then I hammock a lot nowadays to save on costs. It does not make sense that a small independent hotel would be cheaper than a large corporation, considering that a large company with hundreds of hotels can bring down costs through the scale of their operation. But even the most budget hotel brands in the UK (Ibis budget and Easyhotel) are still far more expensive than an independent hotel, despite not really offering any more service or features.

@@benolifts I have been in a 3* hotel a couple of months ago, and it had an "Iberian generic". It was a really cheap two speed Ascensores do Oeste, Lda. lift, along a much better hydraulic service lift from the same manufacturer with a swing door, and a folding internal door. They were both small (6 and 4 people respectively). Since I was in a large group (around 100 people), the hotel staff decided to let us use the service lift (the things I like to ride) to relieve congestion on the main one (keep in mind we had luggage). The interior of both lifts was generic, but nice (not bland, like Fucksons).

Jackson Lifts, more like Jackass lifts. They're the death knell for many good lifts in the UK. Guys Hospital. Bromley Glades. Both of them had awesome Schindler Miconic lifts which were perfect in every way (and apart from Mitsubishi and Fujitec) is still the best lift model produced to date. Now these jackasses have come for these awesome Fujitec lifts, which (alongside Mitsubishi) I'd call the Miconic of the East for how perfect they are.

Those jackasses at Jackson have no appreciation for engineering masterpieces which probably would outlast their crap 💀 Earlier they targeted the Miconic, now these awesome Fujitecs. Even today the Fujitecs don't look at all outdated. That's how ahead the Japanese were back in the day. No generic lift can match their level of craftsmanship and quality.
@padsterdaawesomedude6253Ай бұрын
@@NobleNumbat And if they even go for Mitsubishi, they're in for a world of pain.
@NobleNumbatАй бұрын
@@padsterdaawesomedude6253 To be honest; I am unable to find any reason why Mitsubishi would be a PITA. In fact Mitsubishi would actually be a good choice considering their how reliable and efficient they are compared to the competition in the present day - I'd go as far to say that overall, they're the best lifts in the present day. Even then I did not imply that these Fujitecs should be replaced with Mitsubishi. My main point is that these lifts should have been kept in original condition, considering how their designs still today don't look all that outdated, and more importantly, they're still in good condition today. No lift from a generic company (or even most major lift companies) today can match the level of quality and efficiency of these Fujitecs. IMO (assuming they're maintained well) they can go for a decade or two more without modernisation. That said though a generic should *not* have been the way to go for modernisation. Ideally they should've gone back to Fujitec to get their lifts upgraded. Alternatively, they may approach another major lift company (except Otis IMO). Considering this is a Hilton, I am disgusted how they chose Jackson and still charging a lot for their rooms. I've seen Hilton hotels abroad having much better lifts.
@NobleNumbat21 күн бұрын
@@padsterdaawesomedude6253 I don't know why Mitsubishi would be a PITA in the first place. They're quite reliable - I'd say Mitsubishi makes the most reliable and well built lifts in the present day (even Beno also says the same - see his videos) Even then I did not mean for the Fujitecs to be replaced, even with Mitsubishis - they're just as good as they are. No modern day lift (barring some exceptions) can match them, let alone crap generics from Jackson.

Not sure that you shouldn't have had a quiet word with your little friend. Not being a Lifty, I've only basic knowledge but I would have thought that if all the kid wanted to do was emergency stop lifts, there's more of a complete experience to be had if he let the thing get a bit of speed up. Five floors of T5 Sofitel I grant you, but it seems to me that he was repeating the same mistake we all did when we were teenagers: coming too quickly to the action and thinking that's how you do it. Pretty impressive thundering boom though and I'd say you were lucky not to get nabbed by some bored security guard, given where you were.
@JP_TaVeryMuchАй бұрын
And why do the pods drive on the wrong side of the road/track? And I'm guessing that you tried the doors mid-flight kinda thing, but you can't open them. _That_ would've been sthg to see.

The Sofitel is probably one of my favorite airport hotels anywhere. The design, with the Rooms facing into internal courtyards, is quite unique. Excellent breakfast as well. What I was hoping you might do is try to get to the courtyards! They're not accessible with a normal room key but I suspect there must be some combination of fire escapes to reach them.
