The reason that lift in Car Park 2 has so many closed floors is the upper levels were demolished of the car park in 1999 for a cinema. Good to see they walled off the other lift properly up there as it also went up there and obviously no need anymore.

5:42 Those lifts actually look like the original lifts from when the centre was built but have been modernised in the 2000s. Might have been something like Otis Series One or Kone TMS lifts originally.
@konemseries125 ай бұрын
They were KONE TMS like the rest of the site. The main TMS lift which serves the food court was replaced in 2005 to serve TK-Maxx. The Car Park 1 Lifts were replaced 2014. Car Park 1 used to numbered rather than lettered. The lifts serving A, C, E, G, J, L were 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11 and the lifts serving B, D, F, J were 2, 4, 6, 9. Level 9 was shopping in both sets making it a bit confusing. The original interior M-Series pushes were plated over in 2006/7 and a new Dewhurst Panel was fitted along with new outside indicators to reflect the new floor numbering. A drucegrove voice unit was also added with some unique anouncements (Level A, Car Park Level) and (Level J, Shopping Mall, Exit Level). I still remember the lifts in around 2003/4 before anything changed. The glass TMS lifts were original until 2012 but had new floor indicators fitted in 2006/7 and a drucegrove voice unit. The Glass Lifts received new lighting and flooring along with Dewhurst and Lester Controls during the overhaul in 2012. Car Park 2 was the only lifts to not get new indicators and drucegrove. Car Park 2 is an interesting one, this used to be a much larger car park but was partially demolished 5 years after opening for the cinema development. The Right Hand lift of the two had the push buttons disabled for Levels 5, 6 and 7. The left hand lift had keyswitches fitted for each of the closed floors. Post the 2014 replacement the right hand lift in Car Park 2 does not serve the abandoned lift lobbies on Levels 5, 6 and 7 as no longer needed. The left hand lift (fire lift) serves levels 1 (Behind old Argos) and locked, 2 (Behind old Poundland) and locked, 3 (Car Park), 4 (Car Park and Shops), 5 (Abandoned Car Park Lobby) and locked, 6 (Abandoned Car Park Lobby) and locked, and finally 7 (Abandoned Car Park Lobby) and locked. Around 2018 the floor numbering in the new monospaces was changed to align with a new lettering scheme for Car Park 2 and the left hand lift now serves as 24 hour access to PureGym (G).

8:24 They did this in 2012 to the late 1980s Otis lifts in the car park of a local shopping centre that had glass windows at the back of the shaft and lifts. They also stuck ads onto the windows on the inside and exterior windows of the shaft which was extremely irritating! :)

You should have tried surfing the other lift in Scarborough Brunswick centre that goes between the upper and lower mall levels. It has doors on the other side that used to open into the former Debenhams unit that is currently abandoned. You could have used it to sneak in and explore that.

How would you do London to Scotland by bus. I was thinking of the east coast as there are some long routes, such as Newcastle to Berwick. It would also be possible via the West Coast, as there's quite a few extremely long distance services that help fill the gaps, but it'd take a lot longer.

@@kieranstravels You have saved me a load of research there! The area around Wakefield and Sheffield is very annoying as the routes get too short to make quick progress. I would do this on days where it isn't raining and sleep in my hammock. That way I have the freedom of not having to make it to a booked hotel each night. With Newcastle to Edinburgh, it think it is possible to do it with 2 buses. There is a bus from Newcastle to Berwick. I did this route when I was 12 years old on a typical cold English summer holiday. There are also some east west long routes, such as Carlisle to Newcastle. I am also thinking about trying a trip to Wales by bus. The only issue with these long bus trips is that it is quite intermittent which buses have opted out of the £2 scheme.

NORWICH!!!! I am so glad that you revisited Norwich. 4:43 Did you hammock in Marriots Way? Lots of homeless people sleep there, used to be a railway, you can see lots of nice railway bridges if you cycle along it out of the city 4:57 I surfed that lift: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j3OtkGWMiM6UjZI It's an MX14 but really well built - nice chassis, second lift I even surfed! I really baited "Castle Quater" (it used to be called Castle Mall) out, because I couldn't get off without putting it in inspection, you also made a video of the original lift: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iXTCdGSdn7yLias 5:42 The 5th floor isn't usually locked, the 5th floor is the cinema, you also made a video of the lift, but it was modded after you visited kzbin.info/www/bejne/oIHbhpqDpdN_fdE 6:23 I have wanted to surf this lift to get to the secret floors, but I felt it was too risky, especially since I'm new to lift surfing. What key did you use for it? 7:40 That ecodisc is still standing strong! Again, you visited it in 2014, but looks like nothing has changed kzbin.info/www/bejne/hpK5fWugr9SEoa8 8:02 The council centre 🤣, those lifts were modded recently, I remember last yere they were still Otis. Stannah has a monopoly in Norwich, and they mod FUCKING EVERYTHING. All the really old lifts have been ruined by Stannah. All council flats, and even in the abandoned shoe factory. I surfed a council flat Express modded with LESTER CONTROLLS!!!! kzbin.info/www/bejne/pnywfWelZtWZiLs When I took it off inspection, it had to go all the way to the bottom of the shaft to find its' position. Now I understand why you hate Lester Controls so much 12:30 I hate Chantry Place, always so crowded and boring. How did you get into the service area? Whenever I try ANYTHING ANYWHERE in Norwich, security get VERY angry. 14:06 Did you look at the NCP car park next to the bus station? The lifts there are pretty horribly modernized, and are 2 completely different lifts. What keys do the lifts use, both of the lifts have really weird mechanisms. imgur.com/a/8mgrdDr You should have went to Anglia Square, the architecture is SO COOL. Used to have some really creepy lifts for the car park, but it closed in 2014. The massive abandoned building - Sovereign House - had Express lifts, and looks so creepy. Gildengate House (the red one) must have lifts, but urbexing anything in Anglia Square is difficult, security are dicks. I have wanted to urbex the car park for years. Also my videos are unlisted because in Norwich, because I am 16, so I don't need to be investigated, and if the media catches you lift surfing they get ANGRY!!!! www.eveningnews24.co.uk/news/23288201.instagram-craze-lift-surfing-norwichs-westlegate-tower/ "It's disrespectful" "I think they need something better to do really.". So your talking lift door stunt was slightly crazy for Norwich.
@benolifts5 ай бұрын
I hammocked in the woods in Gurney Road. How do you mean you baited it out? It would be very unlucky for security to notice the lift going onto inspection, and if they did, in my experience, when it enters service again they check its working and then forget about it. 5:42 There are 2 keyswitches. One for car preference and one to lock the top floor. 6:23 I don't think it would be risky to surf that lift. I was thinking of doing it. 8:02 The Stannah mods are very bad. The lifts start painfully slowly, which is typical of Magnetek Lesters. 12:30 Didn't have any problems with security in Norwich. The service area doors are only on weak magnets. Can be booted open. Don't worry about crappy local newspapers. They can not do anything. One of my friends actually deliberately gets himself in the newspapers as it is funny. I don't know what you mean by "investigated", there is nothing to investigate. It is not an issue for your lift surfing to be known. It worries me that young people are lift surfing in secret. From the things I hear, I estimate that there are well over 100 young people in the country surfing lifts who have not made themselves known. While I have seen lift enthusiasts building up a lot of knowledge about their hobby, there will still be important things that can easily be missed. While lift surfing is not as dangerous as people try to make out, the biggest dangers of it are when someone is not aware of a particular danger and has overlooked it. This situation has been caused by people like mrmattandmrchay who tries to make out that it is a bad hobby, when actually he has created a situation that has made the hobby more dangerous as he has made young people feel like they have to keep it secret. He should not be looked at as some king of voice of reason, when he has put a young person in a newspaper, making a narrative about it being bad, which causes young people to think they need to stay quiet, which puts them at risk. The surfing hobby is only as dangerous as the lack of knowledge of what the risks are. We need a safe space for young people to obtain knowledge on the hobby freely and openly. I honestly feel that there will eventually be an accident due to the large number of people doing the hobby without telling anyone. When this happens, people will claim that it is because the hobby is bad etc. When what is bad is actually the culture of fear causing people interested in the hobby to not seek help and advice.

@@benolifts Wow, that's quite far, Marriot's way and Mousehold were way closer, but if there were no homeless people, then I guess it works. I baited it out because I was with a friend, and surfed the lift, I put it on inspection to get out, then like we walked around Castle Mall for half an hour, went back (my friend was building up courage to surf the lift, I was not pressuring him, he wanted to do it but backed out last second, as getting on top of a lift for the first time is a huge mental barrier). When we went back, we went to the top floor, and a staff member came, so we went to another floor, and the staff member followed. Finally, we went back to the main floor, this time the staff member came in the lift with us, and she put some tubular thing over a little knob under the indicator of the lift. We then left, came back like an hour later. I went to the toilets, 2 security guards came into the toilets (in their stupid police-like uniform), while I don't think that was for me, cuz there was some guy in the toilets looking kinda suspicious, that scared us off, and we called it quits for the day. I also think I baited it out because I surfed the lift 3 times in a row on consecutive week days, around the same time, putting it on inspection all the times. I tried to get off the lift without putting it on inspection by standing on the chasis to reach the rollers, but I realized how unsafe that is. I also don't want to touch the rollers while the lift is moving, because I want to be sure that the floor I get off on is empty, and I am not prepared for the effects of safety breaking a lift for an extended period of time. The lift has remove monitoring, so they know when it goes on inspection. Finally, the ecodiscs have a really harsh stop on inspection, making the loud bang sound, which again is REALLY bait. I thought that the lift with the secret floors would be risky to surf because on the main floor, it's right by an enterance. Also when I tried to surf it, the door wouldn't open, then I heard someone approaching from behind us, which scared us off. But now I realize I could have surfed it from car park level, sent it down to pure gym, and just timed it right. "Can be booted open." yea... not bait at all. I am worried about crappy local news papers because I am 16, finishing my GCSES, and I have to go to 6th form. It would be horrible if a crappy local news paper found out my name, wrote an article, and then I wouldn't be able to go to a 6th form because of that. Tbh I am slightly paranoid, I always account for the best and worst case schenario. Also I have seen Jordan on the news lol Also what keys do these lifts use, the right lift has a really weird mechanisms and keyhole. imgur.com/a/8mgrdDr Searching online, I found the KONE key, it's like £8 + £1 delivery, that's one key. You have like 50 keys. How much did your collection cost? Also which keys do you use most often?
