Bobozam is awesome! I've not see that around East TN. I have 2 Whipcords and love them! Everyone asks about them. Definitely a conversation starter. The whipcords were pricey though but it didn't matter I wanted them.

I love that I have a couple of these already here in south central Wisconsin. I'll be looking for a few more next year. Thank you for doing these videos-they have really expanded my horizons.

I absolutely loved this video. The variety, shapes, colors and textures of these evergreens are amazing. I’m going to watch for some of these in nurseries in my area this spring. Thanks so much for giving us a tour of this fabulous grower.

Wait! what? Garden Plants with Jim Putnam! How have I not heard of this until now? LOL. The diversity of conifers you covered in this video is spectacular. Great ideas for me to consider as we make a plant list for a new bed at the edge of our property - Neighbor to the south pulled out a hedge of juniper (Humongous!) about 75ft. long. And low and behold - every car driving north on our street can see straight across our back yard! GAH! thanks for the ideas.

Jim,can you cover care,maintenance and diseases of this Pom-Pom junipers on a future video? Mine is a common NC pine. I’m in zone 7b. I had this pine for about 12 years. Is on the ground. The Pom-poms are looking thin. I fertilized it once a year with Espoma regular organic fertilizer that I use on everything. I prune it once a year after the candles harden,usually early June. Is planted off my driveway near the house. I know the soil here is not great which I had try to improve for years. Do you have any recommendations for me. Beautiful video!♥️ Thank you!♥️🎄♥️

Thanks Jim, there are a lot of unusual conifers out there, some very unique. I’m afraid if I bought something like one of those the rabbits would end up destroying it. Very interesting though. 🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄❄️💚🙃

Really happy to see all the Junipers covered in this video, definitely a genus I'm going to lean on a bit for my Oklahoma garden. Is there a particular Juniper that's considered "best" in terms of berry set? Canaertii maybe?

Every time very interesting conifers presented in the video, please may I ask, in this particular one I see that conifers are in the pots and also in the ground? maybe to block overheating of pots? Could anybody help me to understand this system, how its called and I could then follow the google reco? Is there a space between pot and ground (I assume) for the drainage?.... I am a starting conifer collector and this will help to look my garden more as a real garden rather than the "nursery" :-) I am from a central Europe, havent seen this yet around....

Does anyone know why that pinus densiflora and pinus thunbergii get burn on their needles in spots when the first frost or freeze in the fall happens? Both my thunderhead and dragons eye has this issue but then the banshosho doesn't it's weird and I don't get it. The thunderhead would burn in the fall so bad I removed it.

I would love to have a small conifer or two but I live in zone 8b where it's so hot and humid in the summers. It seems most conifers outside of a very few like blue point junipers, Leland and Arizona cypress (too big) don't like this heat and humidity. Are there any dwarf conifers under 5 feet you would recommend for my zone?

Hey Jim, interesting video! Curious why the pots are all buried at this nursery, surely all of those plants aren't marginal?

What is the time invested by this nursery in grafting and training these conifer specimen pieces? 5 yrs or more, including growing the understock?
@JimPutnam
@JimPutnam Жыл бұрын
3 years for the small grafts with the understock. Probably up to 10 years for some of the big stuff.

Would you consider doing a how-to video for doing one of these fancy topiaries from scratch? I don't think I'd be able to find one already formed and even if I could it would be very expensive I should think. But doing it oneself would be pleasurable *and* would get the result as a bonus. Eventually.
@JimPutnam
@JimPutnam Жыл бұрын
Yes, I will do that. A lot of these are grafted, but they can be done by staking them. It just takes longer.
@susanbaker2796

@@JimPutnam I also would be interested in a how-to video. Creating a fancy topiary from scratch would be very satisfying for a home gardener like myself. And unlike retail gardening, I've got free time to devote to it. Great suggestion, Ibis333!
