Not only is the bowline a good knot to make a loop, as you mentioned it doesn't get jammed after use and can be easily untied when wanted. It also retains 2/3 or more of the line's strength unlike some knots that severely weaken the line. If a more secure knot is needed, make 2 'rabbit holes' before passing the 'rabbit' out of the hole, around the tree, and back into the hole. I enjoy your videos and am very envious of your boat and location!

Great video! We own a Beneteau Swift Trawler 50 named Sea Bear and we were in Gig Harbor the same weekend. In fact - our boat is in your video right about 7:44!! Pretty cool to see! We just discovered your channel and we’re really enjoying it. We’ve been boating for almost 20 years but just one year with a trawler (though ours can go 20 knots if we need to!). Enjoy your summer!

You weren't out basking in the sun on 16 May - Saturday - lol. The weather pattern is covering most of the coast from Oregon up and we were all getting drenched. You have talked a little about yourselves and jobs you are doing. When I heard you boated in Wisconsin it occurred to me it would be interesting to hear a general overview of your life. Even though I am Canadian I lived in Madison Wis in the mid 60's and went to two years of high school at La Follette High. My family belonged to the "prestigious" Four Lakes Yacht Club. Madison used to be the headquarters for 45th Division NORAD at Truax Airfield Base, and wherever there is a NORAD facility, there will be Canadian military.

When I was a kid we lost our towed dinghy somewhere between Catalina Island and Newport Harbor, CA due to the questionable knot I had tied. After that, my grandfather taught me the bowline knot. I grew up on the beaches of Puget Sound, many decades ago, but migrated to ranching in Central Washington. Entertaining myself during lockdown led me to boating you tube channels, including yours, which I really enjoy. I love the trawler type motor vessels, and it seems to me that the Nordhavns and Flemings are the best of the type. I am curious, did you specifically look for a Nordhavn? Did you consider a Fleming? You two are off on great life adventures, more power to you, and thanks for sharing the fun!

If you think 54 is warm you should have been in Mystery Bay the week before the 4th! It was 63! Practically a hot tub. Mystery Bay should definitely by on your bucket list though, Nordland and the community is great for walking and everyone is super friendly. Our boat is trailered (15' 11", a shrimp compared to Freedom) and we launch at Mystery Bay. Avoid Flagler though, super strong currents through the snake funnel through there, usually around 3-4 knots.

Have a question....since your boat is in salt water much of the time, do you have a problem with barnacles on the hull. Growing up, we had a wood-hulled 54 foot cruiser, and since we were not live aboards it spent a lot of time in a marina collecting barnacles. This was many, many decades ago, and I was quite young, so I don’t recall what was done about them. Love your vlogs, thank you!
@mvfreedom4 жыл бұрын
Robin Owen not much since we have anti fouling bottom paint that keeps them at bay. And cruising like we do helps keep any other growth to a minimum as does the colder water temps. When Shawn changes the zincs he scrubs the hull to get anything off.

@mvfreedom4 жыл бұрын
Alan Meola yes we actually thought Selene would be what we ended up with because there were several listed that were less expensive, but all three fell through for various reasons (sea trial issues, another offer, etc.). We loved the interiors but always worried we’d regret not waiting for a Nordhavn since they are really the only boats in this size range that can cross oceans safely.
