I never find your videos too long Steve....................I just allow sufficient time to watch them!!!

I've never seen one of those "way to long" videos even though I've seen them all. The longer the better! You're doing it right!

Thanks😁. I know that alot of people enjoy the longer videos. I'm one of them. Thanks for watching. 👍

Nice job. Takes me back to being an apprentice sitting at my horizontal mill watching the tool grinders do their stuff. I actually still have a taper drill and taper reamer from my days in the assembly cell. Assembling the tubes on the aircraft ejector seat service stands.

Those big tap wrenches were the kind used in naval shipyards back in the day when armored warships were being built and overhauled, to thread the huge nickel-steel-bolt holes and nickel-steel bolt retention nuts used to hold armor plates to each other at their edges in some configurations and to their backing ship hull plating and strengthened I-beam and framing supports. The bolt heads and nuts had nickel-steel spacing washers which compressed very thick rubber washers between their contact faces and any other metal objects that the bolts were screwed into to prevent projectile impact shock and the resultant abrupt plate flexing from tearing the bolts apart and turning them into small missiles bouncing around the ship (not good).

I always enjoy it when you are trying something new like this. What I would like to see if at all possible, would be a magnified view of the cutter geometry after grinding just to satisfy my curiosity. Awesome versatility on that grinder sharpener assembly, and nice to see you exploring its possibilities, cheers!

thanks for the effort you went through to share your work and progress. the more i watch you guys, the more i regret, that i am on the other side of the pond. I bought for approx 50$ a box of reamers (roughly 150 pcs) , most likely smaller sizes up to .500 , but a lot of really good brands, sizes, and incremental sizes, So now i am waiting for Jobs that require something between 20 thou, and 500 thou reaming. Let me know if i can hunt for something metric or imperial, ( Drills th, Reamers, Bushings, etc ) Thanks a lot, all the best to you and yours.

Thanks for watching the channel. I appreciate it. Sounds like you got a pretty good deal on those reamers. I know the ones I have bought new were expensive. 👍

Morning Steve twice today, great content I love your nothing to it but to do it attitude, I can say I never did any reamers on the cutter grinder man you have came a long way in a short time kinda makes me want to get one again and get back at it

You should, That grinder is my favorite machine to run. It's not the most exciting thing to watch on video but in person the setups are rewarding... to me anyway 😁. Great to see you👍

STEVE I have a stuck taper pin on my lathe apron. I'm refurbing the lathe. How would I do this? By hand drilling? Drilling in the press? How would you do it? It's inside the south bend apron but accessible from the top....... drill press is possible but set up could be complicated -ish
@SteveSummers Жыл бұрын
If driving it out from the small end doesn't work then drilling it and moving to the next size up pin is the only way I know. I would suggest setting it up in a machine if at all possible. A long or complex setup is better than taking a chance on shaft damage . 👍
@dizzolve Жыл бұрын
@@SteveSummers Thx Steve.... I was just considering drilling and tapping 1/3 down into the large side and trying to pull it out through a socket or something. It's not a large pin - so that actually makes it harder to work on. It's probably 1/8" +/_. Maybe I can get a little pressure set on this and then put heat to it and see if wants to free up. Back to it

Considering the price of new tapered pin reamers, I have been wondering if a differently tapered reamer or a straight reamer could be ground with the proper taper?
@fpoastro5 жыл бұрын
Would winding a string around the end with a plumb Bob or weight attached work to keep the reamer loaded against the guide pin?

Great video Steve! How much reduction in size would be in sharpening a straight/non tapered reamer?

It all depends on the condition and need really. Next usable size down normally 👍
