sugar gliders are super loyal and amazing animals, but I think people underestimate how much constant attention they need and forget they are nocturnal, preferring to be active and noisy at night. They are very reliant on being social and when depressed from lack of interaction or other reasons will self-mutilate and harm themselves. These are NOT cage animals... please do your homework before buying one
@19Robert985 жыл бұрын
They do well in a cage but need a lot of attention. Ours LOVE being out with us. They don’t care what we do, they’ve been to a burnout competition, drag races, a hanger, off roading, on countless road tripe’s (they love car rides). They go to the store with us to!
@chi1abb5 жыл бұрын
So basically you have a suicidal depressed rat on your hands if you don't give them attention?

MrDan2454 I have a hedgehog and they are nocturnal animals as well. My friends always want to see him so I have to explain to them that he’s nocturnal. I don’t know why it’s so hard for some people to understand. Although I understand if you want to spend time with your animal but need some sleep but you shouldn’t do it often. It could stress them out which makes them less social overall and more vulnerable to common diseases. I’m just speaking from my experiences. Pls don’t come for me. Lol
@MochiFish-ld4lx5 жыл бұрын
I’ve done my research while debating on if I should get a hedgehog or sugar glider (hedgehog won). Sugar gliders do fine in cages as long as it is the minimum or above. The minimum size is 24 inches deep by 24 inches wide by 37 inches tall and the space between the wires should be 1/2 inch or less. I think. The minimum is quite small in my opinion. I would recommend getting a large cage for them. These are not lazy animals and love to play.

"They can only glide short distances". So you're telling me my Sugar Glider-powered Flying Fortress of World Domination will be limited to short-range tactical sorties? Fine. I'll make it work, one highly-localised bombardment of cuteness at a time.

never ever, EVER, get sugar gliders if you A) don't have time to play and handle them each day B) aren't responsible enough to take care of them and play/handle them every day the sad yet true reality is sugar gliders are bought because of how cute they are, then returned or abandoned in the matter of a couple days or weeks, and the pet stores can only take so many returns and some breeders won't take them back so the glider might be put down only because no one wants them. They will only be trained if YOU train them, if they are already trained then they are attached to their trainer. So please don't get one if you can't handle if often, please.

While they rarely need to go to the vet, 99.9% of vets do not know how to handle gliders. If you get one, let your vet get to know them and do research before they get sick. Many sicknesses result in a quick death because they're so sensitive.

Hi there! Are you in America and if so, how did Sugar Gliders get there? Also, are they the Indonesian ones or are they the ones from Australia? Around the world, the sugar glider is popular as an exotic pet. It is also one of the most commonly traded wild animals in the illegal pet trade, where animals are taken directly from their natural habitats. I live in Australia ( where most come from) and we cant keep them as pets because its not good for them.. why do you keep them ?

Sci Westwood Us sugar gliders are captive bred. They wouldn't survive in the wild. They were LEGALLY imported from other countries that caught wild ones and started breeding them in captivity (I believe Indonesia and one other place). They have been bred in the US for decades, in captivity and actually live longer than in the wild because we've (the sugar glider owner/breeder/vendor community) continued to do studies on appropriate care and diets. Sugar gliders in the wild live about 5 years versus up to 15 years in captivity. So we must be doing something right!

Only glider brokers like pockets pets, calls them "sugar bears"... Or people who bought them from places like them.... Brokers, mills, back yard breeders. Yes I know Pocket Pets is USDA licensed but look up the requirements to get a USDA license. They are very low, sadly. They don't care about lineage, only require cages big enough for the Gliders to be able to stand up and turn around, don't require staple diets, etc. If a breeder is worth a crap they go way above and beyond those requirements!

In 5 years when I move out, I'm going to get a sugar glider. So I'm doing my research rn because there's a lot you need to know about sugar glider. So, thanks for uploading this, kinda shows me how I should play with them (sorta)

Azerina M. Don't get them for kids. They need someone with alot of experience and they are needy critters. Plus they're expensive. They're not one time fee animals and you could be spending $1000 on the stuff they need. If not, you'll be facing $5000+ in vet bills.
