This is a nice walk from town to country to hamlet.. We did this recently but continued the piornais levada up to the small tunnels where a pair of 70+ swedes dared to go where we were a bit afraid of unsecured hights.

Hi, thanks so much for this great Lavada Dos Piornais walk, so much variety and great views all the way along. Thanks also for the commentary (and the quiet spells of ambient sounds 👍). A perfect day out. You had asked in a previous reply if we had a favourite Funchal restaurant - no, we never developed a special favourite, we were always trying something different. Thanks again, I enjoyed this a lot 😃. All the best, Don 🙋♂️ !!

Lovely walk, thanks for the effort. We are going to Madeira (Camara de Lobos) for two months this summer, but from what I can see, the island has become severely overbuilt and commerciallised since I was last there about 12 years ago. BTW, I haved lived in Portugal (East Algarve) for 20 years now in the "Camara" de Castro Marim. "Camara" equates to a Portuguese local authority, the level of Government that collects all the taxes. BTW, how many kilometres was that walk?
@LivingWalks7 ай бұрын
Pleased you enjoyed it Michael, the walk is approximately 10km. The Sao Martinho area we walk through here is very built up for sure, but I'd say that's the worst of the over development and I'm sure you'd still find much of the island beautiful and peaceful. Perhaps some of our walks here will give you a better idea, we do have over 100 of them in Madeira. Thanks for dropping by.
@michaelthatcher38257 ай бұрын
@@LivingWalks Thanks for the prompt reply - I will try to watch as many of your walks in Madeira as possible. Interesting that the Dos Piornais walk is 10km when the coastal walk from Funchal to Camara de Lobos is only 5km (if the tunnel is open). Shows you how the lavadas meander around the valleys. OK, last month I flew to Menorca and took two weeks to walk the spectacular Cami de Cavalls (GR223) around the island. Have you done this yourself? Highly recommended but the best time to go is about right now, no later.
