We are in a healthcare crisis nationwide and it begins right here on a personal and bio-individual level. The only possible way to reverse this crisis is by resolving chronic diseases. The key to this reversal might not lie in conventional medicine. This talk explores an empowered path toward optimal lifelong health by a physician who incorporates a personalized and collaborative approach between patient and healthcare givers. Parent of Austin College alumna Saloani Malhotra’ 17, Dr. Malhotra is a graduate of Calcutta National Medical College in India. Malhotra completed her postgraduate studies in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Maharishi Dayanand University Rohtak. Board certified in family medicine and functional and anti-aging medicine, she specializes in patient centered care. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

After not having a doctor for over 10 years, I had a trauma and my newly acquired PCP instantly prescribed me to 3 antidepressants, 1 benzo, and my specialist also prescribed 2 additional anti acids. My second specialist prescribed 2 anti-inflammatory drugs. 8 medications added to my profile in a span of 2 months wrecked havoc. I’m about 9 months off of all of them rebuilding what was damaged. Holistic and functional medicine is how to heal. I have a ways to go but I’m happy that I’ve learned how I was poising my body and now I won’t do it again. I also was able to quit chewing tobacco as a result after a 8 year addiction. God is blessing me every day on my healing path

BEST APPROACH is always,,root level functional medicine,,,,,But after 40yrs of practice as a MD pediatrician in a small clinic,,,I feel,,it is a critical time for public to open eyes to such things..to watch many such world class talks on functional medicine.

Excellent! I have been saying the same all along. I just need to find a dedicated functional doctor like you here in Florida. Thank you Dr. Minni Malhotra!

She’s a doctor who actually cares about healing, not about blindly following an incorrect curriculum built on studies funded by big pharma. Love it!

The issue I am having with trying to deal with a FM practitioner is that their consultation rates are outrageous.. I can't find someone to go over some test results for under 300 bucks.. That's insane.. Doctors and lawyers don't even make that per hour

Yes, I am in this right now. When I lowered my A1c, (type 2 diabetic), to just passable, by using just diet. My doctor was outraged, and challenges me if I am seeing some other doctor...but does not say.." Hey, great, your almost there, now lets see how good we can get your numbers. " NO!: "Who is your doctor!!! Who is your doctor!! " ie: get back on the meds... and then gives me another prescription.. and then literally tell me to "shut up". It seems like there is little interest in healing, but instead, bullying to stay on high priced meds to satisfy the insurance companies pharmacy and kickbacks. So.. how do you spell " SPIDER"..or "SNAKE" ? OK, he offered me a chance to be trained to buy his special line of health pills for and extra $300 month beyond insurance payments..but I sense shakedown. Other doctors have told me that nutrition by food is better than nutrition by "pills" alone... or at least, pills must follow good nutrition, not try to replace it, ie: alla Michael Jackson. So I believe it is time for a change.. but seems no integral doctors nearby have insurance support, but why should they? I suspect that if a doctor in the USA today had a magic pill that would cure all illness, and offered it to all freely...such a doctor would wind up like the inventor of the diesel engine, who also wanted to offer it freely to all: floating beyond recognition in the North Sea, with his patents mysteriously transferred to military linked corporations. The downside is, big pharma doesn't invest money in functional medicine studies, therefore most insurance doesn't cover it since it isn't 'well studied'.

I’m all for functional medicine, but beware, they too are out for your money. I have lost so much money on it. Also not all of them agree on things. They make money off of selling supplements that you have no idea how your body will react to. Not to mention the thousands spent on tests that you don’t know if they are actually accurate. It’s a balance at the end of the day. The amount of attention needed for each patient is beyond what the average person can afford. It feels like we are sort of screwed.
