Third video in the Neurology Series, which is aimed at teaching basic, practical clinical neurology to medical students and junior doctors (though anyone is welcome to watch). If you want to see more, go to: www.metabolicneurologist.com/....
Best wishes, Matt.
Correction/Clarification: In the video I state that FND constitutes up to one-third of neurology outpatient dept presentations, however if "tightly defined" criteria are used the prevalence is lower, around 5-10%. Thus, the true prevalence of FND is probably somewhere between 10-30%, but this will vary from one hospital to another.

I was diagnosed officially with FND 2 days ago after it being suspected for 18 months by my specialist and having symptoms for 5 years. I hope with correct helps and supports I can have a reasonably normal life, however with my history of ongoing C-PTSD and trauma who knows…

My son was diagnosed with this two weeks ago, although he awaits a brain MRI to rule out MS.

Sorry to hear of this Ruth - however, if it is FND and treated properly, prognosis is good. This field is rapidly evolving as we learn more about it. Kind regards, Matt.

Why we dont speak about nutrition, inflamed gut? How carnivore heal and put alot of this stuff in remisson?

Thank you Stella. I am a huge advocate of keto and carnivore, but FND is more of a brain processing issue more than a metabolic one. In most cases, a metabolic therapy won't fix an FND on its own, though there are always exceptions. You may want to look at the bulk of our work, which is in metabolic therapies in cancer, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's etc here: www.metabolicneurologist.com/presentations Very best, Matt.

@@drmclphillips thank you, i have Fnd, and with carnivore my Brain feel amazing, the Brain processing is depend on High insulin, cortisol, or Am I wrong? I had huge paralysis, with carnivore there are Just gone in two weeks..i think metabolic issue go Hand in Hand with how Brain process stuff? Of course i can only speak from myself, and People that i know who put this stuff in remisson, but it is fascinated that when they do all the scan they see no issue on hypotalamus, or perfortal Cortex, even all the syptoms are corelated with this part of the Brain.. I still think nutrition Play so much And that there is hope All the best 🥰🙏

@@stellaancimer8505 Very interesting Stella, you must be one of the exceptions to this rule. I have thought of a mechanism how metabolic therapy could actually work in FND (through restoration of internal health, the abnormal brain processing may be correctable through feedback, at least in part) but have not met too many people for which this actually holds true. Thank you very much for letting me know this result. Matt.

So, are you saying after the diagnosis, some visits with a psychologist, a physical therapist, and maybe a follow-up, you are turned lose and on your on to get the job done. So, what if it doesn't change, just too bad I did all I can do. Good luck.

Thanks for the comment. You are right, not everyone responds well to the approach outlined here and more intensive methods will be needed to help these people recover. Hopefully we will be able to do this in future, but I think it will require that we learn more about how the brain really works before we find that success. Sincere regards, Matt.

@@drmclphillips Thank you, truly, at least you were honest. I have received so much run-around. It is refreshing to have someone just tell it the way it is. Keep being that person. It helps more than you realize to some one who has had neurologists (5) see you to the door without an explanation and told not to come back.
