This talk, which was given at the 2022 Movement Disorder Society of ANZ conference, discusses how Parkinson's and Huntington's can be perceived as primarily metabolic disorders secondary to mitochondria dysfunction.

I've been doing keto/ketovore for a year and a half with tremendous results but I don't have HD. Thanks for an excellent presentation Matthew, it's inspired me as a young-onset PwP just over two years in. I've adopted an 18:6 protocol. I've also been taking a lot of coconut oil (for its MCT content) along with ketone esthers. You mention in your video that both these strategies stimulate ketone levels, but don't bring about the broader metabolic benefits that fasting/ketone diet generate. I wondered how well researched this area is and how confident we can be that MCTs/ketone esthers do, or don't deliver the wider metabolic benefits. Coconut oil is pretty cheap, although ketone esthers have been costing me around £1,500 (~3,000 NZD) each year. Any additional research or guidance you could share would be very much appreciated. Thanks Dr Matt. Living with young onset Parkinson's and practicing your metabolic strategies, I can say for sure Keto Diet and fasting work! I have been on OMAD for over two years. To me metabolic approaches are essential part of treatment/therapy than 'adjunct'!!

What were the proportions of fat by type in the diets? Polyunsaturated, Monosaturated and Saturated. And do you have view on what the effect is on the metabolism of linoleic acid at the mitochondria level?

@@drmclphillips Hi Matthew, not a problem, We need technical terms, It is a lot easier to understand in the long run. its not so much a problem these days with stopping the videos and using cc and making it easy to write some thing down, and learning the terms later, from a wonderful array of medical, biological, engineering and math videos.
