What matters to you physically is your ability to perform all of the activities of a typical day and functional fitness allows you to do just that. For beginners try out 10 repetitions per exercise and repeat thrice with breaks in between. If you are advanced, go ahead and do 15-20 repetitions and there is absolutely no harm if you can hit 4 sets with minimal rest in between sets.
