On this week’s episode of the Escape Your Limits podcast, we are joined by John Jaquish, a doctor of biomechanical engineering on a mission to educate the world as to why traditional weightlifting is a waste of time.
Driven by an obsessive interest in bone health stemming from his mothers’ osteoporosis diagnosis, invented the X3® - a device that improves bone strength, whilst limiting the risk of injury, through the application of variable (adaptive) resistance.
Dr Jaquish is absolutely committed to advancing oesteogenic load research and travels the world speaking about its implications. A number of his articles have been printed in medical journals and he has also written and published a couple of books: ‘Oesteogenic Loading’ and ‘Weight Lifting is a Waste of Time - And So Is Cardio. There’s A Better Way To Have The Body You Want’.
Whilst Dr Jaquish is a disruptor and very happy to question the effectiveness of traditional weight training techniques, his findings are also supported by several independent studies. His methods are used in training the world's most elite athletes and associations such as the entire Miami Heat organization, various NFL and NBA players, as well as Olympians.
In this highlights video, John talks about:
● Clarifying the discussion around stretch induced muscle growth
● Why stretching at the bottom of the movement will shut the muscle off
● The importance of full range of motion
● Making biomechanics more capable
● Taking cells to a greater level of fatigue, triggering more growth
● Volume training and ‘Bag Theory’ explained

He has it backwards. Loaded stretching and stretch range partials disrupt actine-myosin bridges by pulling them to their limit length and beyond. This is actually the signal for increased protein synthesis. Gymnasts do a ton of this and are generally very strong for their bodyweight. The highly contracted range of motion can't pull apart actin and myosin subunits because they have a very high degree of overlap in those ranges. Blood flow has to increase BECAUSE of depletion of local glucose availability and occlusion that creates a buildup of metabolic by-products.

@@JohnVKaravitis Belisarius says: John Jaquish’s PhD comes from Rushmore University. According to Wikipedia, “Rushmore University is an unaccredited institution of higher learning offering online degrees in a variety of business-related fields, exclusively via distance learning. It has been described as a diploma mill, providing illegitimate academic degrees and diplomas for a fee.”

Muscles get torn down in the workout doesn’t need that much volume but intensity… you can only sprint 100 meters so many times, until it’s useless
