Hi Philip, I love how make difficult concepts so easy to grasp. Your channel has been my most valued resource for my GRE prep, however I found a less time consuming way of solving the last problem by compiling everything I have learnt from you so far. Hope you don't mind me sharing here. Plugging a and b in f(x) in the two different cases of f(x), we can see f(a) = a+ 1 and f(b) = b-1 and if we want to satisfy the given condition i.e f(a) + f(b) = a + b, adding a+1 and b-1 we can see that the -1 and +1 gets cancelled. This means our original assumption of plugging a in one case and b in the other is correct. Thus by the rule that states even + odd is odd, we get option C.

I'm so bummed that I found your channel literally a day before my GMAT. If only I'd have found it sooner, all those function questions that seemed like alien particles floating in the air, wouldn't have felt so daunting. Well, I'm glad that I found your channel. Post my test, I'm going to go through your content anyway and apply the understanding again for my retest. THANK YOU!! P.S: I never comment on YT (this is my first ever comment). I couldn't help but applaud you for your effort to make this seem effortless.

Amazing video. I just found backsolving kind of hard (especially for a non-math guy like me). What I did: I factored the function beforehand: f(x) = x^2 + x --> x^2 + x - 30 = 0 --> (x - 5) (x + 6) = 0. Then I plug in 2t top get (2t - 5) (2t + 6) = 0. Now it's super easy to see that t = -3 or t = 5/2.

For the last question, I deduced that if a is even, b has to be odd. And so only option c can be correct. At first I was confused about what to do but your rule about always substituting the number inside the function in place of the default variable really helped. f(a) + f(b) will only be a + b, if it's a-1+b+1 or a+1+b-1.

Okay, first of all I only found out about your channel 2 days ago, sadly. Secondly, I love you man, I did the GRE previously but I only had 1 week so I did not do as well as needed on it but now i have around 2-3 weeks max left ( already started studying 1 week ago ) and so far your channel is the best resource to study QUANT from. I have one question though, if I only go through the videos ( by grouping them into arithmetic , algebra, geomtry and data analysis ) and just go and try to pick up training questions from various websites like ETS, greprep club etc.. will that be enough or do you think there are some topics/sections that needs more covering ? for example the geomtry section .. I have trust issues on those, is everything about their formulas, rules, shortcuts, etc.. in here ? Once again you are a legend

If you fill in both odd numbers in question 23, it also works out doesn't it? So for example 7-1 = 6 and 9+1 is 10. 6+ 10 is 16 and 7 + 9 is also 16. And it this case A + B is not Odd but even. So to me the correct answer seems to be E. What I am I getting wrong here?

not sure if this is right but this is how I got the answer for the last one. solution- I replaced x with a and b respectively. so f(a) + f(b) = a+b by trial and error, a+1+b+1 = a+b+2 (so not true) a-1+b-1= a+b-2 (so not true again) a-1+b+1= a+b (so works) hence one has to be odd and one has to be even
