Its quite funny how this guy without even seeing knowing or talking to others can explain so much to so many in a few minutes which math teachers around the planet couldn't do to them through their whole school life! Thanks man, this really helped :)

You can look at a function as sort of a machine. It takes the input, does something to it, and spits out an output. For example, if a function f(x) = 3x + 4, then the function f(x) takes the input, multiplies it by three, and adds 4. what f(x) means is the input "x" is being put through the function "f." The reason it is f(x) instead of f(y) is because we are doing things to x, not y.

And here goes me in 2022 at the fist lesson I thought of function as a Wendy machine you insert $5 the machine scan the coin(Acting in place of the eqaution) then you get dependent viarable which is $5 items thanks man.

I normally understand mostly everything in math and I love it, but now I'm studying for my ACT and I'm realizing there are a couple things on there that I never learned for some reason (such as matrices) or DID learn but didn't understand (such as functions). Your videos are preparing me for this and I'm very thankful for your help.

I'm the last person on Earth that should try and answer your question. I see it like this: f(x)= -1 plus the opposite of f(x)= -1 would be f(1) so, f(-1) - f(1) = 0. Does that make any sense?

f[(-2)^2] right becuase you're substituting the x value. You're probably just mistaking it as f(-(2^2))
