I was pondering over following points. Would like to seek your comment on it as I do not have a very great understanding on this 1) During last 1 year every tom, dick and harry kind of stock has given huge returns, so there is no big things for this stock also 2) There is already a lot of competition in this sector and as profit margin is already wafer thin , lot depends on large scale market share 3)As the loans are dispersed to low income category segment with uneven income stream and low credit worthiness, chances of loan default are high, thereby impacting profits 4) Moreover as large chunk of loan are dispersed to priority sector as identified by govt., chances of loan recovery in case of default is very difficult. 5) Bajaj finance is totally in different segment altogether, it's not a small finance bank. Moreover, it has wide range of product portfolio.

In finance companies when growth happens at such a great pace like u shown in equitas there is a high probabilty that some of its loans gets junk . Hi Akshat, Major reason why govts dont let banks fail is to safeguard depositors
@Nsha-myID3 жыл бұрын
1. But going forward, considering digitisation, I don't think rural areas will need branches so first point don't hold valid. Having rural branches is not a moat for sure, look at zerodha for example, so many accounts without branches except the one in Bangalore, they do all KYC and processes online. I know it's not a bank but still under strict regulations. 2. They go to loan sharks as they don't have income proofs like a salaried in urban, same will be the case with banks too as they will ask for income proofs to provide loans. They need returns to be filed, then even SBI will give them loan? 3. Bajaj finance and equitas are not at all comparable, different ball game all together.
@mchunkat3 жыл бұрын
Newcomer here. Watching your videos with a great deal of interest. 2 quick questions: 1. What is the difference between investing in the Equitas Holding Co. and Equitas Small Finance Bank? 2. Why is there such a difference in Intrinsic Value (from Screener.in) and CMP for most shares? If IV is less than a third of the CMP does it mean that the future values are not fully accounting for the growth potential seen by investors like Jhunjhunwala Ji?

Hi Akshat, great video for beginners. Hey one thing Equitas holding had a sharp rise in July 6 to July 12 and after that it is sideways trading. As you posted video on 16th July definitely you must have made a good money but was you seriously that much bullish as it had played mostly sideways afterwrds. Do you think its a long buy, I mean fundamentals are good but sentiments are not.

Hi Akshat, nice video, but two questions for you! 1. Why not invest directly in the small bank rather than the holding? 2. I went through the annual report, Holdings have only two subsidiary and the small bank seems to be having moat. So is this like a long term view of betting on the other subsidiary as well? management is class apart. I was planning to only hold the small bank business but just want your view on it :) God day!

Would you please elaborate a little more on why not to directly invest in the equitas small finance bank than to invest in the holding company?
@bharatjulakanti3 жыл бұрын
Bcoz Equitas small finance bank is going to be merged with this Holding company due to an RBI rule which says holding companies should not have more than 40% stake in child company so they have to sell approx 40% stake of bank which increases its liquidity and reduces share price. In most cases it is the bigger entity that benefits with these kind of mergers. U can still invest in its bank, but when merged they provide a ratio of 1:10 (holding: small finance bank) so u will have less shares.

Akshat, Thanks for an insight into your fundamental pick and analysis. First of all, if you are so much confident about Equitas then why did you buy Holding company and not Equitas Small Finance Bank Stock? Holding companies always trade at 25 to 50% discount so you wont get much value unlocking. Secondly, there is always management risk in newer banks. I also hold Equitas holding but that constitutes such a low percentage of my portfolio that any adverse performance wont really impact my portfolio. I don't know what's your total portfolio size is but seems you have made a huge bet. Would love to have your feedback.
