Is this a mathematical theorem with a proof?
@MugenTJ6 жыл бұрын
This fundamental theorem is very flawed. I won’t say why. I might be wrong as well. Go figure it out for yourself. Think about this example: say you have TT, villain has KK, surely you don’t know that he got KK, but if you do, are you gonna fold preflop, or try to rep AA get villain to fold preflop, or better yet play it out and get player to fold postflop assuming you don’t hit, or play for set?! Notice each of those scenario’s loss or profit depends on how the player react to your action/image. We simply can’t have a poker game when both player know each other’s hand, render this theorem pointless. And if one side know the other’s hand, it still depends on many factors not mentioned by the theorem such as other’s player and flop/turn/river all of which are yet unknown. So while the theorem state a seemingly true fact, one wonders how do you apply this?! Soon you realize this only works if there is only two players and only one street. Indeed it is difficult to make the correct decision in a particular street to begin with and this theorem would in effect be a good guide, but it ignores the overall complexity of the game. Instead the fundamental theorem should stick with the assumption of imperfect information and how to best generate value with minimal risk.

James Barrett yes every game is rigged in favor of the person with the better strategy.

You have to take into consideration the villain wouldn't fold Kings preflop, easy. Also, AA is rare and be tough to sell.

Lmao, yes youd fold

Well Is chess really perfect information???? You have to try and profile the other player and think ahead so that you may exploit his or hers playing styles! Seems pretty similar when you think about it. The really big differance is that any player can play any player, if they have the chips...

True but that's just what humans do and that is not the best play. In chess there is (theoretically) a perfect move which is independent of the opponents playing style. Sure humans aren't able to calculate the best moves all the time so you try to put your opponent in scenarios where they are weaker to win. Buut objectively speaking that move may or may not be the best move.

@@charliereji4203 yep in fact there is no perfect play in poker for any scenario and raising a lot with a top pair when you think your opponents have a connector is just bad

Note that chess is only a game of perfect information if you remember that one of the rules of the game is that you must keep a written record of your moves. If you don't know what the last move was, you don't have perfect information because you only have the right to take en passant on the immediate next move. You must know whether the last move was a pawn advanced two in order to know what your rights are right now.
