STORYLINE:
Hundreds of mourners in Israel attended the funeral on Monday of Sgt. Oz Daniel, 19, who was killed on Oct. 7 while being kidnapped from his base in southern Israel during an attack by Hamas militants.
His death was announced by the IDF on Sunday, saying his body is being held in Gaza.
"You are a real hero, you fought until the last moment," his mother, Meirav Daniel, said at the funeral.
The war, launched after Hamas-led militants rampaged across southern Israel, killing 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and taking roughly 250 people hostage, has unleashed unimaginable devastation in Gaza.
Nearly 30,000 people have been killed in Gaza, two thirds of them women and children, according to the Health Ministry in Hamas-run Gaza which does not distinguish in its count between fighters and noncombatants.
