A Funeral Train is the name given to train when it is moving retired, old, or dead locomotives. These can just a train by itself, or a large block of old locomotives near the head end of a freight train.
In this video, we'll two two of these Funeral Trains with lots of old, sold, and retired power. The first train was shot at University, on the south end of Northtown Yard. Right behind the lead power of the BRCGFD was a mix of former Santa Fe locomotives such as a GP30, SD45-2, SD75 (former Super Fleet, BN SD40-2, and a repainted SD75. After getting a crew change at Northtown Yard, we'll see the train once more racing by at Osborne Road in Fridley. The second of these unique trains shot at Union Jct in Saint Paul, MN. This particular train had a GP30, SD75, and slugs on it. I do not know where these locomotives were off to, but had been informed the were off of the BNSF roster, and sold for scrap. Sad to see that older power go away!
