A Funeral Train is the name given to train when it is moving retired, old, or dead locomotives. These can just a train by itself, or a large block of old locomotives near the head end of a freight train.
In this video, we'll two two of these Funeral Trains with lots of old, sold, and retired power. The first train was shot at University, on the south end of Northtown Yard. Right behind the lead power of the BRCGFD was a mix of former Santa Fe locomotives such as a GP30, SD45-2, SD75 (former Super Fleet, BN SD40-2, and a repainted SD75. After getting a crew change at Northtown Yard, we'll see the train once more racing by at Osborne Road in Fridley. The second of these unique trains shot at Union Jct in Saint Paul, MN. This particular train had a GP30, SD75, and slugs on it. I do not know where these locomotives were off to, but had been informed the were off of the BNSF roster, and sold for scrap. Sad to see that older power go away!

The 70MAC's still have potential, I have no clue why they would want to scrap em

Those weren't SD70MAC's; those were ex Santa Fe SD75M's. Most of the MAC's are either in storage or off the property with a rare few that are still in revenue service. Enjoy them while you can. -23 years working for UP.

In response to your second comment, the only former BN unit on either train was a SD40-2. Hopefully that clarifies. Stay safe and stay off the right of way guys. Signing off.

Aw man, there goes 250. I had hoped that would someday be put with 251 & 252 but I didn't realize it was a dead locomotive lol. Incredible catches though!

Santa Fe Gp30 #2437 was involved for kismet train collisions on June 14th 2006. However, it survived on the wreck. It quickly put back into the service and it retired in 2021. Also, it sold into LTEX and it never run again!! Santa Fe Gp30 #2437 name is Alex!

I would bet that most if not all of the retired locomotives will be working on some regional or short line railroads. They may even be rebuilt and exported.

Those locomotives spent years baking in Galveston. I know there was a power move that sent a bunch of them up to Galesburg a few months ago with some videos showing them sitting in the yard. Kinda surprised they haven't rebuilt those SD75's there with #250, #259 and #272. #250 might possibly be the last one still in Warbonnet paint.

Quite a few of the SD70/75 series and Dash 8 equivalent locomotives have been rebuilt for export to African countries and also new units, unlike North American freight railroads which are not receiving any new locomotives.
