Asian beauty is more refined and delicate and youthful. Western beauty is more garish and try-hard, and so less natural. Born and raised in Canada, I think eastern style wins, hands-down

Most of them look nothing like their beauty standard, Asians literally shave off bone from their face to achieve a smaller face and their makeup is not really makeup, it’s more like an illusion. The East Asian beauty standard is much narrower because of ethnic homogeneity. When everyone looks so similar, it's much more difficult to stand out compared to the West (even though one could argue the West has a Eurocentric tilt). Also, Asian physical standards are considerably more stringent and unrealistic in terms of body weight, skin tone, height, etc. For what it's worth, the West has varying conceptualizations of beauty, not just the blue-eyed blond(e) look.

His Chinese-born mother was mixed race in that _her mother_ was part European, so the European parentage was _very_ distant. Bruce Lee may be considered mixed race from a very insular perspective but he was pretty predominantly asian and he looks Asian. He also presented as Asian and suffered racism and less available Hollywood roles for in fact being Asian and looking Asian... so Bruce Lee being mixed distantly is not actually what this conversation is about.

These are some people who would rank high in both Eastern and Western beauty standards imo: -*Takeshi Kaneshiro*: when he was younger he had that pretty boy look but his chiseled bone structure also gave him a more masculine touch - Henry Nguyen aka *King Henry* (Vietnamese-Australian Tiktoker/KZbinr): His glow up videos always appear in my recommended section. Post glow up, he looks like a mix between a Kevin Nguyen and Kpop idol due to his tattoos, toned muscles as well as his flawless, clear skin, permed hair and tall height. - *Jung Hoyeon*: She might not fit into traditional Eastern beauty standards but her striking features and tall height make her stand out in a good way, otherwise she wouldn't be a global top model. -*Kim Taehyung (V from BTS)*: His square face shape fits into Western b.s. while his soft features fit into Eastern b.s.

Not sure if this still applies in China. Back in the 90s 2000s, there’s a saying that Chinese teen girls loves guys that knows how to fight. In their 20s they want a handsome guy then in their 30s they just want a rich guy. Just to give some context, back then high school fights were brutal, you have class vs class fights during recess/after school. I think nowadays, schools are safer

This is such an interesting topic, and I'm glad I just found you guys! I've been interested in Japanese, Korean, and Chinese media and cultures for about 10 years, and it's fun to hear the Asian American perspectives on them and the differences between the US. I watch a lot of Chinese dramas and I find a lot of the guys there very attractive (the Orlando Bloom elf-look, especially for martial arts shows, appeals to me). To me the actors are very diverse from each other, but I know they are just scratching the surface on the number of faces in China that probably are never representated as leading men. Also in Korea I find a lot of the guys attractive, and I do tend to like the more unique faces. Everyone has their own perspective on beauty, but I think it's fun to unite with girls around the globe who are fans of these Chinese and Korean actors.

Wasn’t-more specifically-Chinese beauty standards in media more diverse in the 80s and 90s though? Face shapes, skin complexion and hairstyle seemed more open and diverse than the narrow look in current media. China has ethnic diversity, I wish it was shown more in the perspectives of Western culture and even Eastern culture.

I'm a 1.5 gen Asian Canadian man (born in Asia but migrated to Canada in my early teens), and I think my aesthetics combine the best of both worlds. Similar to western standards I like women that have olive or light brownish complexion and I also like slightly curvy women (perhaps not as curvy as the Kardashians but still have to be somewhat curvier than an average East Asian woman), but similar to eastern standards I like women that have large or deep-set eyes, preferably with double eyelids. And out of all the women I've met I think Far South Chinese, South China minority, and SE Asian women fit my criteria almost perfectly. They're generally tanner and curvier than East Asian women, and have larger eyes as well.

I prefer the eastern beauty standard for women, snow-white porcelain skin, smaller stature, more natural style makeup. I don't like the tans and big butts going on right now with the western beauty standard for women. They usually don't look natural and I don't really like the makeup or hairstyles either, or a lot of the clothes they wear. I think it's more of an American thing, because they don't do it so much in Europe. I can't really pull off the western standard for men look myself anyway, so it all works out as far as who I attract and vice-versa.

On the traditional Asian male archetype, I think a lot of it has to do with a continual influence of Confucianism where it teaches society to put more value on the development of the mind and proper morality over the emphasis on physical strength and perceived power. Confucius taught that if anything requires the use of force to bring resolution, it certainly ought to be solved through education first and avoid the use of force at all cost. I think thousands of years of this type of thinking has created a bias against the Western standard of masculinity as primitive, low class, and uneducated... - highly educated Asian American guy who lifts weights and works out everyday

Following eastern asian ytubers they mention & strict the standards are. Unfortunately here plastic surgery is getting more popular specially for woman on their curves, lips & face There was this ridiculous trend in China were if women were skinnier than a letter piece of paper they were happy. I have to say s korea has the strictest standards & there's a story about a man suing his partner because the baby didn't come out as beautiful when in fact the woman had multiple surgeries

It seems like frail, delicate, sheltered/pampered are central to the eastern beauty standards. Rugged, hardy, athletic/physically competitive, pioneering are central to the western Beaty standards. Physicality is so important in the west because of our histories regardless of ethnicity. We are an “of the land” people and we’re darn proud of it. That’s why we will mow our own lawns in the hot sun. But it seems East-Asian cultures have almost the completely opposite view. They mirror the social markers of past centuries that placed great importance on not appearing to make a living working the land/manual labor. Fair/white skin was visible proof of privilege and freedom from manual labor. In modern life, these folks wouldn’t be caught mowing a yard on a hot summer day for all the money in the world! Neither cultural view of beauty is right or wrong. My orientation is heavily toward western beauty. I will say, after watching three-plus years of Kdramas, Cdramas and Jdramas many of the features that make top actors and actresses in these genres wildly popular in East Asia make those same people much less appealing in the west-outside West-Asian viewers. It’s also quite jarring to see how certain East Asian actors and actresses have dramatically “whitened” between their debut/early years and their modern adult selves. While some who have done this still look very attractive, others look less healthy today than they looked a decade ago. For me the milky white/ghost white look, the infantile female look and the super thin arms/legs have been the hardest to overcome in my continuing journey to enjoying East Asian culture & beauty. But now I can clearly see, respect and appreciate the beauty/attractiveness of East Asian beauty standards.

As African women who is into Korea Drama I think Korean celebrity women are beatiful and have beatiful features and feel good to look at them but I know most of them get that look from plastic surgery especially that V-shape face. -Also Lead Korean men in Kdrama are handsome and good looking and cute and feel good to look at them but most of them are not manly. -The only manly Lead Kdrama actor is Son Suk-Ku from Liberation Notes and Killer Paradox. -I think enviroment and culture what determine a beaty standard both Western and Asian beaty standard a good. -Also I like Olympic and I think Nathan Chen is more handsome than that cute G.O.A.T Japan ice sketer and I find Chloe Kim beatiful.
