I understand SF is different from the rest of the bay, I've lived in SJ while I was in college and a couple years after I've graduated, so I know what the weather is like. I'm just trying to point out that not all cities on the west coast are the same. If they're going to do a west coast vs east coast video, they should also have some west coaster's point of view too.

As a Cali girl living in Pennsylvania for grad school, I think it's refreshing how independent and down to earth people are in the East Coast. Not as many Asians, but I'm glad to have met new people and respect the more humble culture they have out here. Sure, shoveling snow is a nuisance, but it makes you tougher. As a side note, the most expensive purse I've seen carried in PA is a Coach and Vera Bradley. Girls in CA often have their insanely priced LV/Chanel. Will be moving bk to CA eventually and likely progressively become a "foodie" again, but I will always love the genuine vibe of East Coast!

LuvableJack maybe he just means k-town is significantly bigger in LA than in flushing. If you get acclimated to the, let say,15 blocks of k-town in flushing, the 30 blocks in LA will seem a lot larger and more desirable. but yea i've basically lived in flushing for 3 years and the its pretty big compared the "k-towns" down in NC/GA where i live now.

Austin Do I'm an East Coast asian and I disagree lol. All the trends are set by ya'll first and then we pick up on it a few years later whether that be fashion, fads, or dance crazes. I follow the west coast dance scene, and everything that has happened there is what influenced the rest of us here and beyond.
@Yungdil

@VattanaThach 9 жыл бұрын
Yeah I suppose, not that trends are important, I just wish there was more of that over here cause it definitely does not happen. Too many people here play it safe when it comes to living their life. It's too conventional for my taste but that makes myself and my friends stand out.

Dude, all the non-couture fashion/music trends are set in the west. Everything we wear dont hit the east until 2 years later. Anyway all this bullshiet talk bout Westcoast being "too hot"? This aint Florida where it's hot and humid 24/7. In Cali we've got ocean breezes that will cool you down real quick. Depending on where you are the weather changes due to the elevation (the Westcoat is topographically diverse). WE have micro climates. Also SF/Bay area/Seattle they wear hella layers cos it gets pretty cold out there. So what the fuck you talking about? Lol

I grew up in California, all over, from Sacramento to OC. Now I reside in Philly, I miss Cali every damn day it's been almost half a decade since I've been out here. I hung out with more Hispanic and African Americans in California so the bubble thing I can't consider for myself. I miss the food, the vibe, the beaches, the people. I do appreciate some of what Philly has to offer like corner stores, cheese steaks, block parties, FDR park for that cambodian food, and girl, no. I LOVE TO SHOVEL SNOW. I'm really good at it too! I think I was the only person in Philly happy about all those snow days. Hahaha.

the asians are not accept in France, Before l lived in Paris (north), there, there are a lot of asian, arab, african ... It was better because in Paris some people are not french and we are not really "in our country" so we lived without racism (sometimes but just sometimes). Now i live in a city with a majority "white french people"( I have the french nationality but Im asian). here the people see me like a chinese immigrant so im not accept and that's hurt me because before I was proud to be an asian french and now Im not... I grew up in Silicon Valley (northern CA), went to school/worked in LA (southern CA), and now am living in NYC. There's always 2 sides to every story/reality. But for me personally, what I like about East Coast/NYC is that it's challenging and it's a place where (because the Asian American identity isn't as dominate as it is on the West coast), I felt/continue to feel like I have the opportunity to change and mold it into my own versus falling into a pre-existing mass of "Asian American" culture (which is fine, it's safe and it's stable, but it's boring because over time I wanted to experience something new/different and in an environment where you do have to stand up for yourself). On the flip side, Asian food in NYC is nothing compared to West Coast.

East Coast Asians have a little bit more grit 'cause of the more fast-paced and urban environment of cities like NYC, Philly, and Boston. Northeastern cities are also a bit more "angrier" compared to the chilled, laid-back vibe of West Coast Asians. We also have to put up with cold and rainy weather and more often than not, have to assimilate with other racial groups.

I agree with the guy that said the West Coast (LA) is just like a big suburban sprawl (Mall), everything is just spread out. You need a car to get around. Metro LA public transit just does not cut it. Just not dense enough like New York City, Hong Kong, Tokyo to feel urban enough. Living above street level has a real big city feel.

I live in SoCal and I am honestly getting tired of the car and suburban culture we have here. I want to live in a high rise and be able to take public transport anywhere I want. Having gone to Taiwan for the first time two years ago, it opened my eyes as to how urban lifestyles are like and I think it would suit me better.

Lol its true about how east coast asians are more use to being OUTSIDE the asian bubble. Went out to LA with 2 asian friends to visit fam. They hated how closed minded asians there acted and how they only stick to asians. As in NYC we just love being different and embracing all types of ppl. You learn more and you get to see how different people can be.

East Coast for life! I haven't been to the West Coast so this is based off of what I've seen indirectly, but it definitely seems like East Coasters hustle harder and have a cooler vibe. Type of people you can just be like "Yo he's mad cool" versus West Coast that's a bit more... hokey? I'm In Jersey about an hour out of the City and Philly so I feel like I'm in the prime East Coast location!

I can definitely agree with you on that. Living in philly is pretty hard for an Asian. I went to school in philly as a kid and remembered how much I had to adapt because I was basically the only Asian in my class. Living in the city in general just exposes you to more sometimes unpleasant things. Idk, that's just my take on that.

Nessa Love Daaamn really? You know what, that kinda doesn't surprise me since everybody in LA is a wannabe somebody, you know what I mean? Like mad people out there are trying to make it in entertainment so I can see them being more shady and mean. When you get the chance come back home to the East Coast even just to visit! I'm sure all your people out here miss you! Gotta get that East Coast vibe to recharge you haha!

Nessa Love Hey Nessa, sorry for this ignorant man. He has a right to say what he wants, but I will say he is rather abrasive. All races have their good and bad points. So he is saying Asians are so much better than Hispanics/Whites? If it was a White (or Hispanic) person saying crude things about Asians, would he and maybe others speak up and say he/they are full of shit? Double standard. Again free speech for all, even for idiots.
@Masumink
@Masumink 9 жыл бұрын
well actually Ziggy I'm not saying the statistics for Hispanics for what is termed dysfunctional are innacurate. So I'm not saying your necessarily wrong. I did defend your free speech. Was simply noting how there is a double standard for some groups to say things against others is all. However again, will note your racist comments. As you just said Asians shouldn't marry Hispanics. That is not the same as making ethnic distinctions. So it is racist. But then its okay by me for people to say what they want. So if people want to be racist, fine but just remember what I said about how its cool for some groups to say racist things and not others is all. Thanks for the input.

BTW I happen to be half Asian...but its cool. So I get ya, Asians should never marry out of their race. If there is any group that probably should marry less out of their group its whites, since they may be a statistical minority in the world.

Great video, luv the Fung Bros! I'm half Asian, live on the West Coast and only visited East coast when I was younger. Have to say from not only what my friends say, but taken from this video, I sense that East Coast Asians are more "Americanized"- even though West Coast Asians may have been here longer. Of course many West Coast Asian Americans are Americanized too. But because here in the West, with such a large Asian community, we have those ethnic bubble enclaves. Actually there are many Asian immigrants on the East coast, esp NYC. But seems they have to assimilate faster because of more diverse interactions as stated by the commentators in the video. However, that being said, I heard lots of Asians now live in Brooklyn, Flushing, etc and that has changed those long standing neighborhoods somewhat, though to what extent I don't know. LOL, don't take this offensively people, but the East Coast Asian males seem more "cooler!" Because when they speak, they seem naturally "swag" where it doesn't seemed forced or contrived. They are naturally strong in their expression without seeming to try to be. So again the East coast environment makes people more strong, diverse and uh.,more Americanized. Its all good wherever you live though. Oh, also read more of the comments on this thread, and yeah see seems I'm not the only one that sensed the "contrived swag" of West Coast Asians. Its because of that bubble they live in, so they may not always get to be "real." Plz no offense here to the great Asians of the Westside!!!!

I definitely agree that there is not a strong Asian American community on the east compared to the west. For example, If you're an asian American in high school, you always tend to be "that one Asian" in a group of white ppl etc etc.. But Im from New York and I truly love that I get to experience different ethnic cultures and meet a diverse group of people.

That guy working in the store is way more thoughtful and articulate than the idiots the Fung Bros. usually interview. They're party types, and they usually just gravitate to party types. But that guy is wrong about most Asians on the West Coast being 3rd or 4th generation, unless they're Japanese. Most Asians here are 1st or 2nd generation. I hate how people elsewhere say "San Fran" or "Frisco." No one says that here! We just say "San Francisco" or "SF"!
