Today we look at the (SP Tools) Schley Products SLY-15900 1/2 in. socket extensions protector. This tool turns any 1/2 inch extension into a punch.
Like I say in the video “Use with caution”. There’s a big difference between testing and the real world. That being said they do seem to work as advertised.

Funk took his wedding ring off for better grip, then started beating on it until it started to feel right, which coincided with when his elbow started to hurt, which normally means he needs to take a break, but all that beating on it didn't make it any smaller which is good😂😂😂😂😂

That's a nice looking set of extension there and the adapter attachments look quite impressive. First saw these when Eric O of South Main Auto showed them on his Channel. My brother is into motorbikes aka organ donors so I want to get him a set of 3/8th extensions and the punch adapters for the ends. I don't know diddly about bikes but I imagine 3/8ths would be a better size for their smaller engines and frames. ust have to find the damn thigs in Australia now. USD$15 for a set and AUD$61.06 for a set in Oz. Fark Amazon and their massive Oz markup. I will have to look elsewhere for his birthday present. *Thank you* for the video and tool explanation. Always nice to learn about new and useful item like this. Much appreciated! 👍👍

Great video! Great idea! $52 on Amazon, though. I'll head over to Horror Fright and get an impact extension, cut it in half and weld a crappy impact socket on the cut ends for a striking surface. You don't want to hammer chrome sockets if you can help it. They crack. Thats why impact sockets aren't chromed. There ya' go!

The failure point depends on how accurately the extension and punch adapters mesh. If there's slack on the female drive end of the extension not allowing the faces to seat flush, like it appears in video, then you should expect the female drive end base to mushroom similar to a socket used as a punch. If the assembly has no slack then the hammer end adapter face should deteriorate preventing any noticable damage to the extension. Basically it'll either act like a stand alone punch and the hammer end mushroom over time or any areas with slack towards the hammer end will end up deteriorating along with the adapter face.

Musical tools. My wrench drawer was like a xylophone. When you use the right kind of foam to place your tools in. My favorite was a very firm, yet soft, black rubber foam. With tool shape cut outs to shadow all the tools. Help you notice at an instant when missing a tool. My CTK (consolidated tool kit) or tool box, was a cube almost 3 feet on a side. With seven drawers. Screw driver drawer, with screw driver or like tools, wrench drawer with like tools, socket and like items, etc… and in all of them you could play it like a xylophone. If you were musically inclined. Not me. Love music, cant cary a tune is a sealed bucket. Had a guy when I was training once, play a little Pink Floyds the Wall while in my CTK. “Comfortably Numb”.

Remember those old wire coated dryer vent hoses? There are a few on the vents at work that are 36" diameter. I use cheap extensions to help scoot it on due to the cowl. The good extensions are kinda "sharp" so I have to use the cheap rounded edge ones.

Only problems I see is 1 it could be a pinching hazard. 2 the impact side adapter could come off and get stuck inside a hole you may be working on. 3 the size or sizes they may come in are limited to the work needed. But over all they seem to be nice to have, and taking hits from a hammer reduces the shock wave because there are joined parts versus a solid bar. A solid bar if soft enough it will mushroom out and grinding on it will keep it from chipping off. But using a hardened punch and you never know when it could fracture. Hopefully the company will sponsor you so folks can get a discount.👍

Cool stuff, haven't seen these before. I think most of the typical mushrooming happens over time from not hitting two flat surfaces together. You hit on/with an edge, way less surface area to distribute the force, it dents, and so on. I bet the extensions will hold up ok to normal sized hammer, 10lb sledge yah maybe not.

Don't laugh or feel awkward, to get king pins out of semis we used to weld two bars at 90° one shorter with 50mm diameter and a long one around 15mm. The long one was for the brave soul who would hold the thing vertical while the local gorilla armed with a huge sledge relieves his marital frustration out on the 50mm bar until the king pin gives up and drops out of the axle beam. As you said, we've all done it. And before anyone comments on using a king pin press, none of us were brave enough to use one. We all like where mo nature put or heads and like to keep them there 👍😂🤣😂

Hey bud, I was looking at getting a set of these so I'm happy you did this review. I'm thinking of getting a set for hammering sockets onto stripped nuts/bolts for (lets say lug nuts). I know we don't really do this (LOL) but we do get in these spots. I really don't want to hit expensive sockets with a BFG but shit happens and mushrooming the ends of them isn't what I really want to do. It looks like these would work really well for that special need. Thanks and keep them coming. Later

Mayhew makes an air hammer bit with a 1/2" drive on the end of it that would be a nice addition to this set. I made something similar. I can't remember what size the hub bolts on an acadia are but I have that size air hammer bit now. I probably welded it with my 15 year old harbor freight Flux core welder. I use it so I'm not wasting co2/ argon on stuff like this. Does it lay nice beads? No. Does it lay half decent looking beads? Also no. Does it melt 2 pieces of metal together? Sort of.

I'm the type of guy who has a shitload of pry bars and punches so I never have to pry with any of my screwdrivers or use my extensions as punches. I have modified crap extensions I found in the street and used bolts...etc like everybody, but otherwise I just prefer to keep an excess of the right tool for the job on hand. I'm not judging anybody for getting a job done by any means, just thinking that I'd rather buy extra punches instead of a special tool that allows you to use the wrong tool. To me this is like buying a cheap set of beater screwdrivers to abuse and use as pry bars instead of just buying a actual set of handle pry bars.

Wes, why use one of these instead of a punch? You're already spending as much as you would on a punch anyway. That and you lose one end and it's useless. Seems better just to buy several lengths of cheap punches. Also the metric system is dumb and we use standard units because they are better.

Don't laugh about the "random piece of shit" everyone has in their toolbox. I needed a brass punch ~15 years ago, and instead of buying a brass punch from napa for too much money, I went down to the scrap yard and found a 2 foot long chunk of 1" aluminum rod, paid maybe $10 for it, and have been using it ever since. Of course, it's about half the length it used to be, but honestly it's saved me so much money over the years compared to a "real" brass punch that I suppose I could buy said brass punch and still be in the black.
