My teacher taught me jazz using this book. I'd do the basic swing pattern, 2+4 hi hat, then snare triplets using the book, but only the last two notes (skipping the "1" in "1-trip-let").. Then I'd do it all with the bass drum. Then I'd do snare for "trips" and bass for "lets". Then I'd do it all with the hi hat on 1 and 3! It truly is endless.

Brilliant Rob! Excellent idea to bring this classic book to life. I've avoided the book because I didn't want to play the rhythms incorrectly. Your examples are exactly what those of us who don't understand time notation, truly need. What a treasure heritage video library this will be. Sync on!

I played around using and combining various of these, even adding "barks" on the hi-hat up to the point that I overused it. 😀 And I have no formal education, cannot read notes and do not have that book (or any other book on drumming). And did not play over 5 years. I miss it.
