I remember my preacher talking about how we give the devil too much credit: that most sins of man are caused by us, not him, and that blaming him for it is a form of pride, not taking responsibility for our own actions and failing to understand the actions of others. Satan doesnt need to whisper in our ear 24/7, we're falliable enoigh on our own.

I actually really like that. That could be a way of taking responsibility for your of bs. It could also be interpreted in a dangerous way and still make innocent people "sinnets" when all they are is human. It's not oksy to demonize every human behavior. But if this man had his heart right, he also meant that you don't get to use the bible as an excuse for terrible behavior against a fellow living being!

no point trying to tell a looney christian about their own book. they’ll look at you and tell you that you must be reading the “wrong” one. (they’ve never read the book themselves) or they’ll say that you misinterpreted it and that “actually later on in the new testament under WhoGivesOne 4: 20: 69 it says that non-followers are permitted to be burned at the stake”….or something. they’ll believe what they wanna believe, they’ll do what they wanna do.

@@LiterallyAllNamesAreTaken Yeah, it's one of those things. Tried to explain to my friend(who I accidentally converted years ago because I was bored at youth group) that the bible told her she deserved to die because she was bi(it's in Leviticus 20-something, I don't remember) and she simply refused to listen to me. Honestly I don't think she's ever actually read the Bible and has just been internalizing all of our youth group lessons. I feel horrible because I brought her in at such a vulnerable time and now I'm seeing my own religious guilt in her because she's struggling to break the belief that I caused.

@ReverieOfThornsАй бұрын
This happened to me all the time when I worked in retail. Live in an area where the majority of people are LDS (Mormons) and I was even raised as such (not in the church anymore myself) so I got way too many missionaries and members trying to give me a book of mormon or preach to me (they'd get incredibly upset after I told them I left the church. It got to the point where my manager had to ask me to stop telling them that because they'd get so pissed off the members would start yelling at me. The missionaries left me alone after, though). The other Christian sects are equally as annoying when you're working in retail, however, and I actually had more of them passing out plastic crosses and yelling Bible verses at me (doesn't help I'm very obviously alt, even in a retail work dresscode/uniform) and trying to get me to accept their prayers. Around the holidays, it was the absolute worst. I wore a sweater to black Friday one year that said "joy to the underworld" with Hades from Disney's Hercules on it and I had way too many Christian mothers upset over a DISNEY SWEATER like come on. The year after I wore the same sweater with some pentagram earrings and black eye shadow and funny enough nobody said anything to me, except for one lady that asked if I celebrate Christmas after saying "Merry Christmas" to me once she arrived at my register. Just kinda ridiculous what you get, but the abuse retail and food industry workers face from their bosses and customers alike is insane on its own without Bible thumpers going through the store and harassing the workers because we aren't allowed to be assholes to them while clocked in

I was in full uniform and just trying to get back insode the building, but he kept insisting I need help and said I should "go over to his car so he can pray for me". He was incredibly insistent and said it was something he "needed" to do. I was already having a horrible day so I just walked away quickly, headed inside the store room and cried. almost everything about paganism was either stolen and remade into a christian thing or is used to make christians scared. Christmas? Stolen from Yule. Mistle Toe was used in Yule celebrations. Now it's used for christmas. The devil? He's modelled after the pagan god Pan. Virtually everything Pagans believed and worshipped was demonized by the Christian church to scare people into becoming Christians. When you really look into the roots of everything, it becomes incredibly clear that Christians use the devil to threaten people into living how the church wants. It's all just emotional manipulation and threats
@callieanderson644Ай бұрын
I do agree that she's ignorant (and definitely not mentally well), but at the same time, if Jesus is the only way and every other god is his enemy, it follows that every other god is also Christians' enemy as well, y'know? I think a lot of immature Christians take that way too far and demonize (ba-dum tsss) the people who follow those gods/commune with those spirits/etc. to an unnecessary extreme at *best,* but everyone has a reason for their own sense of morality, and if it's unfair of them to call pagans pure evil, I think it's equally unfair to call Christians unreasonable because they've taken up arms against forces that want to remove them from the only home they've ever had
@kyrarobinson9496Ай бұрын
It’s weird because my church doesn’t say that Halloween is evil, we as Christians just have certain limits on things we can do. We can still go trick or treating and dress up and watch movies. I think what makes things worse is that they also speak horribly about mental health and try to dismiss it by saying "oh its demons." (Intrusive/impulsive thoughts) or "god told me to do this, god spoke to me" (delusions), etc. It's happened several times before and it's very scary.
@divine555Ай бұрын
Or saying "god will cure you" no, god will not always magically cure mental illness, a better way to phrase it would be saying "god loves you and believes you're strong enough to get through it"
@raumarsene9910Ай бұрын
Yeah, plus these types of people actively encourage letting people's mental illness fester and grow because they encourage you to view everyone and everything outside of your preconceived religous viewpoint (including viewpoints stemming from delusions) to be demonic. Like I could only imagine how difficult it would be to realize something is wrong and to actually seek help when these types of Christians characterize symptoms of paranoia, anxiety, OCD, and psychosis to be spiritual and a sign of god while demonizing any non-conversion therapist as being in cohorts with the devil.

I’ve heard before of various ways Atheists are actually more respectful of aspects of religion as people in those religions. For example, there was a Reddit story of an atheist who was invited to a wedding in a church. The bride wanted everyone to take communion, have confession, and be baptised. The atheist said that since she doesn’t believe in the religion, it would be disingenuous to do all that, but would accept a blessing instead. The bridezilla refused. Or in this case, people using their religion as thirst traps. If they actually believe in their religion and respected it, they wouldn’t use it as thirst traps.

as a kid i always wondered how all the good ppl who were never exposed to christianity will have the chance to go to heaven, and that’s when i realized that the actions you perform in life matter more than with whom/with what you identify. a laosian woman in the 1920s who serves her community selflessly will see heaven/paradise far sooner than these egotistical, narcissistic, greedy business owners who claim to be christians but financially abuse their employees, mistreat their family, and knowingly pollute their communities - both environmentally and socially, and only act christian when they think others are watching.

What is the will of the Fathe then? Jesus explicitly said he came to fulfill the mosaic law (matthew 5:17-18), emphasizing obedience to god’s commandments. Yet paul later taught that salvation comes through faith in Jesus, not by works of the law (e.g., Galatians 2:16). This seems contradictory. On one hand, Jesus upheld the law; on the other, Paul downplayed it, focusing on faith alone for salvation... that's a major inconsistency

The worst is when you get called into a private meeting with the pastor or elders and told some bs about how “god” told them to tell you what to do with your life, which is usually the exact opposite of what you were planning (and they found out because you had told some other church members). If you go against their “spoken word,” you’re suddenly labeled disobedient. CULT.
@THE326JORDANАй бұрын
yes usually God’s plan for us is the opposite to what we plan for ourselves because we don’t know what’s best for ourselves like He does, like how parents know what’s best for their child even when that child thinks they know it themselves. proverbs 16:9 reads “We make our own plans, but the Lord decides where we will go.” as for disagreeing with somebody’s prophecy for you, if it is an accurate prophecy (there are people who falsely prophesize both knowingly and unknowingly) then yes you are disobedient to what God is calling you to do. but you need to understand that we do this every single day. going against what God wants for us is what sin is-it’s missing His standard. and we all sin, since we’re humans predisposed to that and the bible is very clear on this: romans 3:23 says “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” how is it cultish to say you are being disobedient to God when we all admit that we are disobedient to God ourselves, and on a regular basis? it would be cultish if we acted as if we are perfect but that’s the opposite of our doctrine, because we believe that we’re so inherently flawed and disobedient that we need a savior, Lord Jesus Christ. so please don’t misunderstand or perpetuate stereotypes against the Christian faith and people. if you have any questions about my faith and my God then i can try my best to answer them to clear up any misconceptions. God bless you friend and i hope you have a nice evening. 💓
@Heather.Isaiah43.1Ай бұрын
I hope one day you can let go of the hurt of these men and understand that GOD will hold them to account. No need to tell me you don’t believe in HIM I get that loud and clear from your comment, but at least with HIM there will be accountability one day. Otherwise your anger is surely justified if we all just die and they have gotten their fill in taking advantage of others. I hope one day you find some good came out of the evil you endured💛. I have faith that no evil is allowed to occur unless it CAN produce some sort of good.

@gabrielledalton9130Ай бұрын
@ Yes, the Christian Bible does encourage people to spread the word of God, often referred to as the "Great Commission" in Matthew 28:19-20, but it also contains verses that can be interpreted as telling people to "mind their own business" in situations where meddling in others' personal lives is not necessary, which can seem contradictory; however, the key is to discern when to share your faith and when to respect personal boundaries. Thessalonians 4:11-12, encourages people to "mind their own business" by saying, "Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life: You should mind your own business and work with your hands, just as we told you." However, this is the “power of holding two contradictory beliefs in one's mind simultaneously, and accepting both of them... To tell deliberate lies while genuinely believing in them, to forget any fact that has become inconvenient, and then, when it becomes necessary again, to draw it back from oblivion for just as long as it is needed, to deny the existence of objective reality and all the while to take account of the reality which one denies - all this is indispensably necessary. Even in using the word doublethink it is necessary to exercise doublethink. For by using the word one admits that one is tampering with reality; by a fresh act of doublethink one erases this knowledge; and so on indefinitely, with the lie always one leap ahead of the truth.” -1984

One of the customers noticed I wasn't very enthused when he said god bless you. I was like "you too". The frick was I supposed to say? I'm not religious. He asked and I made the mistake of telling him I wasn't religious, to which he responded with, "Jesus loves you. He really does. He loves you." Wow, thanks man. All of a sudden my prior feelings toward religion has changed and I believe in God now. Thank you. I also had a co worker try to give me a bible, after stating I haven't read it, nor want to. Also tried explaining how I find it hard to believe in just one religion when there are hundreds and I'm more of a science and see it to believe type person. She was like "Yeah, but my religion is the right one." Wtf?
