ALSO I just want to note that my definition of polygamy came straight from the dictionary. I’m aware majority of FLDS and some LDS Mormons only practice having multiple wives and not multple husbands, but I didn’t want to wrongly assume there are or were not a few members practicing plural husband marriages (because i actually know of one.) Can’t win either way lol. I also know that there are different words for each, but polygamy means either or 👍🏻🫡 just some clarification for all the commenters sprinting to correct me 😂

When I was 14, my Mom and I went to visit her ex bf and his son in Utah, we are from California. And I met my very first polygamists. We went to Huntington Lake, which is near where they lived in Price, Utah. The son was gay and had a bf and all his friends were gay, they were oddly nervous I thought, to be near this other family, but he had to remind me, "It's not like California here." When I say it was like being on the Moon I mean it. The guy had like 5 wives and 20+ kids. I was gobsmacked.

The DM in my DnD group is married to a woman who escaped the FLDS. She grew up in the same community that Jeffs led. She ran away when she was 16 because she was about to be married off to one of Jeffs relatives that was in his 50s at the time. She now helps people escape the FLDS. Living in Utah, it actually not too uncommon to run into people who grew up in the FLDS compounds. I used to work with a guy who was kicked out of one of them when he was 14, just taken to Salt Lake City and dropped off and abandoned, because they had too many men/boys and not enough girls/women. I guess it's pretty common practice for them to abandon young men/boys to the streets to avoid the old men having to compete for more wives.
@motomyrtАй бұрын
I was wondering that already! Like if you have 50 wifes, where are you getting all the women? There’s gotta be some lonely men in those communities too. But if they got kicked out that’d explains it

As someone who has done a school service project trip to Hildale for a week to help people leaving and still part of the FLDS, I can say firsthand that being their feels...wrong. You can feel and see the damage caused by Warren Jeffs. After spending time with one of his wives and the bodyguard who turned against him (+ bodyguard's whole family), and staying in one of the houses he had built, it changes your perspective even more.

My parents were Mormons. I had a babysitter who was in the stake, and her son SA'd me (he 14, me 6). His mom walked in and caught him doing it, and told me if I said anything that she would tell everyone I "seduced" him. What 6 year old knows what 'seduced' means?? My mother knew it happened, but just moved me to a different babysitter. I will have nothing to do with Mormons.
@MelissaLawrence2002Ай бұрын
That is disgusting. I'm sorry that experience had such a horrible impact on I'm sure the rest of your life as that isn't a trauma that just disappears. As a woman, I would never let anyone, related to me or not, get away with SA. My faith as a Mormon has nothing to do with that, the fact that I'm a human is what makes me empathize with you. I've also been SA'd by boys at school when I was in Jr high, and it was actually because I am mormon funnily enough. People can be so evil. I'm very sorry that mother let that happen to you without repercussions. I hope you still got some level of justice, especially because I'm positive no one with half a brain cell would believe a 6 year old seduced a man child. That infuriates me, especially since I have 3 small children in my life that I would protect with my life. How someone could look in their faces and call them the problem is just mind-boggling to me. I'm truly sorry you had to suffer this, at such a young age no less. I hope you've found some peace since, I'm too aware that's a very difficult thing to find. Sending you my love. Happy Thanksgiving ❤
@natalieford3238Ай бұрын
@MelissaLawrence2002 No justice. The Stake protected him and his family, I found out decades later, forcing my parents to join a different stake. My PTSD from it is still there, but I have made peace with the fact that Karma will take care of it, in its own way. As for my mother, she is a maligninant Narcissist, and I cut ties with her decades ago. . Thank you for your empathetic and nurturing approach. Happy Thanksgiving to you as well.

Love that you went here. As someone whos been too close to cult life, theres something healing in listening to a "normal" person discuss the topic. When you're in, strange behavior is normalized. And to all who say "I'd never be involved in a cult!" I want you to remember two things. First, most cult members are born in. And second, dont be fooled into thinking that all cults are religious. There are cults of politics, of influence, of business. Any kind of group think, can easily become cult like.
@magikdust2095Ай бұрын
What happened during covid should've shown all of us that anyone can fall for lies and propaganda, everyone is susceptible to herd mentality and mass formation psychosis, and almost anyone can be brainwashed... not only religious people are susceptible to these things, everyone is. If someone is bombarded with lies and propaganda, and the truth is silenced, then anyone can start to believe the lies, especially if they are surrounded by other people who have already fallen for the lies and propaganda. There are more types of cults than just religious cults. There are secular cults, too. Most people need something to believe in, and if they don't have Religion, they are more likely to fall for other cultish beliefs and groups.

I know way more than I'd like to about this cult, and I look for ways to help people out of it. I still have extended family in the FLDS church, many of whom are in Mexico and let me tell you, the groups there are TERRIFYING! Anyway. I appreciate when people spread awareness! It is ABSOLUTELY different from the LDS church, and although I have chosen a different church to follow I don't have hate towards the mainstream church. The "mormon culture" here in Utah is just not my cup of tea! But such good people. My family history and family tree is wild. My dad is from Cardston Alberta Canada, and good old Winston Blackmore is my great Uncle. Its unbelievable that the FLDS church has been allowed to do the things that it's done. As well as the Order(Kingston clan), AUB, and other fringe groups. The Order in Northern Utah is scary as heck. I'm so glad that my parents kept my sister's and I sheltered from much of this growing up. I chose to learn as much as I could, and I now have a strong pull up help people escape. I took my boys ice skating tonight, and half of the people skating alongside us were FLDS people. They've moved to our city in waves the last 5 years. One thing that I remember vividly was a secret room the size of a small bedroom I think. That at one point held records from the FLDS church as to who Jeff’s was married to. He was legally married to one wife and every other woman after was through the church and truly harrowing experience. And something I don’t expect to forget. I've watched so many youtubers who insult religions, and although i respect that they dont cherish the same ideals, it gets really old and is dissapointing. So i just wanted to say thank you, Kris, for being so respectful of everyone in your loving community you've created. We really appreciate you! And i know i for one pray for you often! You seem like you've been so much happier lately, and im so glad. ❤

this is such an interesting video. I actually went on a mission trip to help people who left this cult earlier this year, and I didn't even know all of this. And during this mission trip, I actually got to meet one of Warren Jeff's wives (Brielle specifically) and hear her story which was so interesting.

Fun fact my small town in BC Canada is roughly half populated with people who were at some point connected/escaped/kids of escapees of this cult. Most of them still practice being mormon, but not the FLDS version btw. The most common last name of them is Blackmore, and almost all of them name their kids with the same first letter of their names based on the year they were born (ex. Born in 2005 means your kids name starts with C). In my grad class of 87 kids, about 35-40 of them are all cousins and their family was at some point in the cult.😅 my town is wild honestly😂

As someone who is LDS, holy shit some of us are psychotic and its disgusting what people think is acceptable 🤢 Edit: I'm talking about LDS people not FLDS because they are very different things but she did mention in the video that LDS people do stuff like this and from my personal knowledge I know this too. Saying this because some of you think that I'm talking about FLDS being the same thing as LDS

@@Mrs_Warner13well the flds essentially has the same beliefs that the original Mormon church established by Joseph smith had. You don’t practice it anymore, but your church founder sure did with multiple girls under 18, one was 18! I’m not here to tell you what to do with your life, you don’t seem to be harming anyone with your views. But I would think about the validity of your beliefs and find out the original racist, sexist, and disgusting teachings of your church.

I read a book on one of Warren's wives. She was originally the wife of Warren's father, Rulon, and had to marry Warren when Rulon died under the theat of the other wives. A rule for these cults is that women couldn't wear red, so when this wife escaped and took Warren to court, she and all the other escaped wives wore red

I grew up in Utah, as a member of the mainline LDS church. I had a friend whose family was FLDS, and man... it was weird going over there. To explain: the family had moved up to Draper from a community due to disagreements between the patriarch and the leadership, but stuck to the rest of the principles of the FLDS.

Woah, it's the earliest I've ever gotten here. I know you're probably not going to see this, but I just wanted to say that around 2 years I used to watch a youtuber called Gloom. She signed off of KZbin for multiple reasons which she explained in her last video. I was really sad to see her leave, but happy that she decided to take care of herself. But then I stumbled upon your tik tok like AGES ago, and even started watching your videos here on KZbin ever since you posted your first two videos. To me, you're not really a replacement of who I used to call my comfort youtuber, but more of a band aid in a sense, or a warm blanket, that even now in though times has helped me power through. Your videos always make me smile and feel better, and I just felt the need to finally say that. Wherever you're headed in life in the foreseeable future please don't give up, there's always a light at the end of the tunnel! ❤

As someone who is personally connected to this situation I’m not used to people telling even a somewhat unbiased account. My parents left that group shortly after warren Jeff’s took over and moved north where one of my sisters actually married Winston, and they lost all their family for over 10 years before their siblings started coming and reconnecting and leaving the church, I still only know 1 of my I think 5 grandmas because of it, also grew up in a polygamist family, and it wasn’t as horrible as people tend to think Also, my aunts and uncles who knew Warren personally say he acted mentally ill from the time he was very young.
