Hey Tony, I put mine to sleep 2 and 1/2 years ago and miss her most days. Also a harlequin. We had her for 10 years. Named Princess Zelda. There is a big space in the house where she was. Cried like a baby when the vet gave her the shot. Laid with her and hugged her for about 20 minutes. Best dog ever. I’m so sorry.

Mine passed in 1979 at 7 1/2 years of age (she had a heart murmor). I bought her in 1972 with money I had made as a paper boy. I even paid to fence in yard,food,vet. Her favorite thing to play with was a dug up rock. Showed her for a bit everyone told me she was gonna be a champion. Then they wanted professional handlers & other things. She had won a few before she turned 1 yrs of age. My time with her was fading. So I said no more shows. They all bitched at me but I told them I do not care. I bought her with my money I made to be my companion. That was the end of it. 40 yrs later still think it was the best thing I could have done. Besides when professional handler was working her all she wanted to do was look for me. If I showed her she was a star & I think enjoyed showing off when I showed her but no one else. I miss her to this day 40 yrs later.

They can be great huggers. Most of my Danes that have been the stand up to greet you type have always put their legs around my neck, sort of gripped me. I used to have a male Cocker Spaniel that went one better, he made the grunting hug noise when I hugged him LOL

The larger 200lbs ish Danes are from European stock, showing their mastiff background. The much thinner, sleeker 140lbs ish Danes are American stock, reflecting the sight/courser hound that were used to develop the breed over the centuries.

b hix That’s not true!!!! Go look at the videos on my channel. Unless it’s a puppy, you won’t find a Dane in those videos that is less than 140 lbs. Right now I’m sharing the couch with my 170 lb AKC champion female from American lines. You might find some females from American lines that are around 140, but not males. Any male that is less than 150 lbs. is from very poor breeding, i.e. a puppy mill or backyard breeder. I have been showing (AKC and CKC-Canadian Kennel Club) for over 25 years. I’ve seen a few thousand Danes in my life. Sadly, the majority of the Danes you see just walking down the street or in the park are very poor examples of the breed. The breed standard in the US and in Europe are almost identical. There is NO reason for a Dane from one country to look any different than another. The short, stocky Mastiff looking Danes are not bred according to the standard.

I've had Danes for 30 years and dealt with "shopping" in the kitchen - but usually just at counter height. My jaw hit the floor at the Dane actually opening an upper cabinet, taking a bag out and taking off with it. Time to install child locks!

I had a lovely mantle great dame named "Lucy" so that clip where the big dog was able to lie in that little bed with "I Love Lucy" playing in thew background was too funny! Lucy would try to do the same thing she'd take a throw pillow off the couch and circle around for awhile before finally taking her shot at it! it's funny= she KNOWS she's not allowed on the couch so every night she'd wait until I went upstairs to bed and all the lights were out and then she'd hop up and curl up where I usually sat! Then in the am she'd take her cue from me starting down the stairs and run to her bed!!! She'd be sitting there beating her tail as if to say 'look how good i am'. So i'd have to just give in and say 'Good Girl" '🤑 These sweethearts truly don't know how big they are! Oh...but don't these people provide enough water and exercise?

marc mo when my Great Dane was a baby he would sneak into the panty and steak a potato. We would look for him for 30 mins and he would be in the pantry asleep cuddling with the potatos. He was about 5 weeks old. We've had him since he was 3 days old since his momma died.

I had what I called a pit bull and fence jumper. She was found in the ditch on a country road. We went out of town for a few days and father in law was checking on her (he didn't want to) she got into a 10lb bag of potatoes and spread them ALL over the house,each one bitten. She was not a happy dog and he hated my father in law!! Lol. She was a great friend and companion .

Phoebe Daniela Lewis 7/23/04---4/28/17 She was my dog dream come true and I will love her til the day i die❤️ she's is the best dog I ever knew (My mother bread dogs all my childhood, then as an adult I also bread dogs so I've been around my fair share of dogs. Since my son was 11 I have given him an allowance of $150 a month, which wasn't dependent on chores or helping around the house. On top of this I pay for his phone, clothes, computer games, private sports club memberships, taxis, meals, entertainment, iTunes account, spending money for holidays - you name it. Then one day last September he ran out of money, came to the house cussing me because I would not give him 500 dollars. Then he took a bat and beat me silly. Bad thing is I gave him that baseball bat when he was 10 years old. So that's when I got me a Great Dane. They are so much more loyal than kids by far.
