@@KDJA814 If you don't maintain your yard you will be given tickets for breaking city ordinances- at least wherever I've lived. The legal limit for grass length is 12 inches where I live now- after that you get a ticket and if you don't fix it, more tickets follow and then they'll mow it themselves and charge you for it- even if it means putting a lean on your house. It not just because a poorly maintained property is a neighborhood eyesore- vermin, snakes, and fires are a major concern.

@@heresjonny666 Yep! Although, the requirements vary depending on city/ county. Now the real trouble is if you move to a neighborhood with a Home Owners Association. They're famously picky and have a lot of regulations. Some places you can opt in, but others it's automatic. They can decide how you get to decorate your home and yard- from landscaping plants to house paint to what time to have the trash cans in by. It's more strict if you live somewhere like a 'historical neighborhood'- your property would have to match the historical accuracy of the other homes or be very similar in appearance. It's a selling point for house for it to be or not be a part of a HOA. Now, I'm not sure how they can punish you if you don't comply- my family's always been very lucky when we moved. I can remember my Mom always being really happy and relieved when she confirmed that our new neighborhood didn't have one and didn't seem to be going to get one anytime soon. So, maybe the punishment isn't just a loss of membership/privileges- but fines.
