As a Northern Irish person, there is a small point of pride of hearing a Scottish comedian refer to an NI audience the drunkest he’s ever seen 😂 “impressive level of intoxication”. Also - Kevin good job on the Derry accent 😂

Surely they have accents in the US as well: the son of a farmer in Louisiana isn't going to talk the same as the Harvard educated son of a Manhattan stockbroker but the language would be the same

A lot on accents and reflecting on people fro whom english is not the first language. Reminds me of an old colleague from Pakistan who had been brought up speaking english. First job in the UK, London, all his teaching worked a treat. 2nd job in Edinburgh and he was completely lost. I find Kevin very easy to understand. Others, Lemmington Spa style, don't. It adds to the variety and joy. A region only a few miles from where I grew up annunciate sentences in the way most do with words. Really not easy to understand when whole sentences are received in your mind as a single long word and you are trying to mentally dismantle it as if you were having to split a word into letters for a toddler.

I worked with a guy from India who was very proud of his English. Every morning he would greet me with "how do you do?" I didn't have the heart to tell him that nobody had ever said that to me in the seventy years I've been here

@@michaelharrison3602 IN India first language is a class thing. If you are middle class upward your first language will be English because that is what business is done in. This group learn Hindi to communicate with the majority of below middle class in shops etc. who learn their native as first language. It is amusing to hear how their english has changed in different ways to ours ofver time, as you say "How do you do?" still used by the older generation there, Hiya is used as often as Hi by some younger. London has so many accents. I think people lose touch with the basic principle that having the majoity of the population there means having a lot of different accents too. In terms of foreign languages. When I travelled a lot for sport in my youth I relaised I pick up accents quickly, to the point where my own is diluted in a hurry. I spent most of the time in south east France and remember coming back to my home town and being complimented on how good my English was. My response was " I should hope so. I was born just up the road." I am definitely an emersion learner on languages. French at school, useless, being there amazing. 4 key things to be able to say if travelling yes, no, please and thank you. With them you are curteous but with little language, without them you are ignorant foreigner demanding things.

@@KermitFrogTheI can say "yes, no please think you good morning good night, excuse me, sorry, pardon up down, left and right in most European languages along with "how do you say?and what is the called?" I'm far from fluent but using these few words makes a great difference to how you're conceived at least you're trying you're not just an ignorant foreigner expecting others to know your language

I'm 100 % pisssssed off at his latest voice. The mans way more handsome and thinner in the face in his mid 30s but that IRRITATING put out voice. Usually it works the talk stop talk chat .. But man what's a matter wee the guy. Almost like he's trying to hard. The 1 hour special when he was 23 was magic. He seems to just be himself.
