Nanny dogs, used to be trusted to watch the kids when no one else was around...because no one is going to hurt their kids when they're around. I've had two, plus a half pit/half American bull. Sweetest dogs I've ever met. They love us, they love their 72 YO grandma, they love anyone they meet and they've been nothing but gentle with the few kids in the family or strangers' kids they've met. Like, lay down and wag tails gentle. The two of them are best friends with a tabby cat who's all of about ten pounds, who likes to smack the crap out of both dogs if she doesn't feel she's gotten enough attention lately. Vicious dogs, my left foot. Raise a dog even half right, you'll have a good dog. Bulldogs are people pleasers, although stubborn, but they generally love people.

I agree but only after they're well socialized while they're stil young before they get older after that they're sweethearts... But, sadly most people get these dogs and then don't spend much time with them in socializing them with other people and dogs and getting them used to baths, then the dogs grow up mean and very possessive, and they're one of the hardest dog breeds to break of that...

She loves people, whenever she sees people, especially kids, she'll run up to them and sit in front of them and look up at them because she wants them to pet her. Once they start petting her she gets all excited and jumps up on their legs wagging her tail and tries to play. She's so sweet.

I’ve been fortunate to have had two wonderful, amazing American Bulldogs (Tank & Bella) in my life. Because of those two, I’ve vowed to always have an AB in our family because they are truly a special breed. They are smart, affectionate, naughty, hilarious and really tuned-in with their people. They are gentle, funny, goofy, loving, kind and lovable but they are also the very best guard dogs. They’re completely fearless, fierce when they need to be and would walk through fire to protect their family because they’re really that loyal and protective. This video does a great job of showing some of the cute and funny things they do on a regular basis, but there’s so much more I could go on and on about! American Bulldogs are awesome!

This video (what little I was able to watch) brought a tear to my eye. It made me think of my Boxer we had to put down 3 months ago. He was often mistaken for being an American Bulldog. I am 6'1" and did not have to bend over to pet him. He could lay his head on the dining room table. He was mostly white with large fawn spots, one blue eye and weighed in at 115 lbs. His mamma could almost walk under him and he was a registered Boxer. Undoubtedly the best dog I had ever owned.

I adopted Ambrose after he'd been through several homes and a kill shelter. I love him immeasurably, and he entertains me every day! BUT, he is extremely willful, stubborn, strong, reactive with strange dogs, and has a predator drive to match. If left alone in the house for 20 minutes, the fridge will be emptied on to the floor, and all the furniture upset. A Varikennel couldn't hold him (he busted the door off). He needs an owner who is uncompromisingly alpha. Ambrose might be an exception, but I urge anyone considering an American Bull to think very hard about it. PS - I tell him every day that I am glad that he's in my life.

My American is going to be eight years old, soon, and I can't say enough good things about the breed. I am going to be sixty-two, soon, myself, but I sure would like to raise one more of "God's gift to man"! Pits and Staffies are excellent, but there's just something about the American Bulldog.....!

My AB is an 80 lb meatball with the heart of a butterfly 😂… I’ve owned large breed dogs my whole life, Germans, Dobermans, a St. Bernard, and a pit mix, all of them were great dogs but none of them were as friendly, sweet or as goofy as my AB! If your thinking about getting an AB or your new to owning one here’s a couple things to keep in mind 1. They can be very stubborn, which makes training a little slow, but if your consistent with them they can learn anything… Def not dummies just kinda headstrong at times lol 2. They are bulldogs at the end of the day, so chew toys and tug toys are a must!! Just like any bully breed they are mouthy and love/need to chew on things… Make sure to give them plenty of chew toys so they don’t chew up stuff they aren’t supposed to, 3. I’d call them a medium energy breed… my German and my past Dobermans needed much more exercise to wear them out… 2 good walks a day, and some play time (they love tug of war!), if u have a back yard let them in and out through out the day, if not a couple more short walks between your long ones will suffice… 4. Introduce them slowly to other dogs and other pets (especially males meeting other males)… I’d suggest keeping them on a leash for your first introduction with other dogs just to be safe… Def suggest building up to the dog park… It’s not fair to your dog or other people to let your AB off the leash day 1 at the dog park, use a dog day care a few times first, it’s a more controlled environment, get feedback from them about how your AB interacts with other dogs and people when off leash… 5. AB’s are always hungry and will eat just about anything so be very aware of what you leave out! 6. Training is a must! I don’t suggest any bully breed as someone’s first dog… Like I mentioned bully’s can be headstrong/ stubborn and they need firm and consistent handler… It doesn’t mean you don’t love your dog if you tell them no and set boundaries/ rules and expectations for them to follow… They are not Yorkies lol 7. Be ready to love and laugh because these guys are super sweet clowns at heart, and can be a great dog for the right owners!

Google user; Yes that would be fun but in all reality ABs could be a little quarrelsome at times. And some of them after a certain age just aren't gonna get along with another one the same sex specially two males. But they seem to do pretty good with another bread that's more submissive, what I'm trying to say is they don't back down from good old fashioned fight 👊lol. Believe me I've had to break up enough of them, it ain't easy if you ain't got someone that's pretty strong to help you. I've had to break them up by my self, it wore me out, they are a very powerful breed. It took me a while to figure out how I was gonna do it but I did it!!!
@jamesbeitia13536 жыл бұрын
Google User, you are right male ABs can be quite temperamental at times, actually that goes for the female as well specially when she's in heat, they can be quite aggressive towards other dogs during this period their hormones or what ever, kind of go's out of wack, that's about the best I can explain it. This is when I had the most problems with them. And yes, you are right, I really do love ABs and I haven't had to break up any serious fights lately the last one was probably over ten years ago. It can get pretty intense when you have two powerful dogs 85-90 lbs each trying to kill each other and both of them are yours, I mean it's not like your hoping your dog wins, they are both your dogs, and with ABs you can't just throw water on them and hope they stop fighting it doesn't work that way, you have to get right in there with them and pry them apart and believe me it isn't always that easy because you might not have good help. I've had to do it more than once by myself they wore me out literally. I had to lay my last AB to rest about six years ago, he was a big powerful male named Opie, a serious guard dog with a great temperament, he was just a member of the family but he became very protective as he got older. A friend of mine had a litter of pups and he gave me one of the two males. Opie was a real clown, everyone love him and he loved everyone except for a few people that I didn't care for myself, funny how a dog can tune into things, they seem to sense that something about a person is not right. Opie was special to me because I took him everywhere with me the reason is he wasn't a bully to other dogs, but I really had to watch him because he wouldn't take nothing from another dog either. I had to put him down at the age of eight due to bone cancer, I got so depressed that I missed a couple of days from work because of it, I just didn't want to be around other people. This might sound crazy to some people but wherever I buried my dogs, I would make it into a flowerbed, so after awhile I had flower beds everywhere lol. I could go on and on telling stories about all my dogs, so many great memories except for the fighting part. American Bulldogs are not for the first time dog owner, they need a firm handler or they will walk all over you and if you already have one then you know what I'm talking about lol. I really miss my dogs and as I'm writing this it makes me want to go and get another one, they are allot of fun, real clowns they are. The one thing that keeps me from getting another one is I know that one day they will take their last breath, and that's the hard part.

Mine was abandoned at petco for grooming a they never went back for him and my wife went in to groom our other dogs and fell in love with him and adopted him We love our American Bulldog. Chief!

He could have been mistaken for a pit bull, or their partner didn't like him and they decided to dump him. There are worse places than a pet store to abandon a dog. Still, if they weren't complete trash they could have put in a bit more effort to make sure he had a better home. Humans can be heartless.

The first one reminds me of my uncle Charlie’s pitbull lucky who is attached to him: he whines whenever he leaves, whenever he’s in another room, lucky follows him and sits in different places: but he’s a good boy, never is any trouble indoors and when going out:he sits there quietly and minds his buisness and is generally just an infecting ball of happiness.. there’s not a dull moment without lucky and if Charlie didn’t adopt him...then things would be boring

Lovely video, thank you. We have two American Bulldogs. They are the most loving, funny, loyal dogs we’ve ever had. Sadly, our boy, Jack, who is 4 has NCL ( a genetic disorder). We are so grateful to have found him and are thankful for every day with our beautiful boy. Our girl, Jessie, is nuts! She sleeps on our heads most nights. Amazing dogs. So gentle, yet so powerful.

At the 10:03 mark, that's a dangerous thing to do, a serious accident can happen in the future. It's always best to keep them away from any kind of machinery. I would break the dog of that right away. One of my Bulldogs use to lunge at and bite the wheels of my riding mower while she was tide up and when I got close enough for her to do it. That made me real nervous. She only did that when she was tide up, when she was running free she would just run around and play and ignore the mower. So what I did one time was to get in on the inside (with the blades turn off of course) and I rolled over and stopped on top of the cable and pinned her real close to the mower. She got real nervous and went crazy trying to get loose, but I just held her there for a short while. As much as I hated to see her go through that I had no choice, something had to be done, I had to break her because nothing else worked. Well you know what, that was the only time I had to do it because it worked. After that she just sat there and let me drive by. Love your dogs and keep them safe and out of trouble. They might be the best friend you'll ever have!!! 🐶🐕🐺😂✌

My Ab lunges at fire! It scares the crap out of me!! I almost cry when my dad let's him out and the only way we can get him to leave is to throw him a bone
@jamesbeitia13536 жыл бұрын
Rocky star; Lunges at fire 😱, that would scare me too 😨. That's a tough one to try to figure on how to break him. It's hard to figure out how to make him afraid or respect the fire without actually letting him get a taste of it, and you certainly don't want to do that, wow. But it all depends what fire he lunges at, you shouldn't have to worry to much(unless it's something like a torch) because a dog is gonna know when it's too hot for him to handle. I had a lab mixed dog that use to lunge at fire works (the 🔥 fountain kind) on the fourth of July and he got in real close but he move fast enough to not get burned. Well, you know what he never got burned because I made him get back and out of the way, sometimes it worked sometimes the urge was too much for him. That was more than twenty years ago, we never tied our dogs up back then.
