Unpopular opinion: I prefer the original anime much more than this, even if they did cover the rest of the story (manga) with this version.

I like both versions for their own reasons. The 2000 version is the one I would show to little kids so as not to scare them TOO much, I mean there's still the scene with Monster Form!Kyo, but the whole version is basically the pure comedy the Fruits Basket series. The 2019 version is what I would show them when they got older and could deal with watching scary real world situations better, like the whole thing with Rin and her pure hatred of Akito, not to mention the more violent scenes in regards to the Sohma Family's treatment of their Cursed Members. But I have more of an attactment to the first version, purely for that version of Kyo.

Personally, I like both fairly equal, except for the fact that . . . (Might be a SPOILER, not sure. Though I think everyone knows at this point.) . . . . . . . the original anime couldn't do the whole manga, because they messed up and made Akito a guy, instead of the 'girl disguised as a guy' that she is. It's a very important detail for the story.
