Just think how quick the instructor is on a super bike. It also proves just how good standard bikes are and also how slow us mere mortals really are. Keep up with the good vids.

Ha! He was having a great time! Just shows a good rider can make anything work! I did my first track day recently. Also on a slower bike than the others, but I got overtaken a LOT more than I think that chap did! #21 Snetterton 300 Track Day

Amazing seeing how much difference on how hard you are on the brakes into the corner and how late you are to use them can save you time!

My advice would be think one nd two corners ahead. Using all the track isnt always the fastest way round the bend as you run wide and slower into next corner

that is very cool! Very skilled rider! Reminds me of a when I was in a renault clio cup with dual controls, got stuck behind a gaggle of slower cars and the instructor told me take my feet of the pedals, he had us going faster sideways round the whole track with me just steering than any one else!

Always a good ego check when better rider on a slower bike keeps up when the twisties hit. Keep at it. Practice is your best friend on the track.

Sending mine away this week too. Can fully charge the camera, power it off, come back to it in 3 days and the battery warning light is flashing. Battery is fine as it gives me around 3 hours recording when I use it immediately after being on charge but it's draining whilst off charge and off.

don't be surprised, these bikes are surprisingly powerful for their engine size, especially in the 6k-8k rev range. Plus they're super easy to ride, especially when the carbs are tuned well, superb brembo brakes too ;)

nice and funny video. Not being an expert at all, but you ask for advice. I might be wrong but to me it seems like you could use more of the track. In several corners you leave half a meter free space in the outside and in the apex. I would take at few laps touching the curbs outside inside outside to feel how much space there really is to use in the corners.

The best advice I'd give you is to ease off the power on the straights let the instructor past follow him like a shadow through the corners like for like if he starts to pull away through the corners use your extra power on the straight to stay close. You will soon see the difference in your lap times after a few laps behind an instructor. I thought I was at my limit but by half way through the day knocked 7 seconds off my lap times just from following an instructor. Try it. It does help dude. My lap times went from 1:45.8 to 1:38.3. Which is only around 13 seconds off bsb lap record of Haslam I think.

I down-trained as an instructor years ago, didn't go for the full qualification but is sure changed the way I ride. What it did do was make me a better rider and I and keep that mentality to this day! Would still love to do it but circumstances won't allow it at the moment :( Anyway, keep up the good vids.

To make the next step up, requires commitment on the corners, I can see what's needed, i know the bike will do it, but as I approach the corners something in me just goes on strike and says 'nah'... lol

The obvious way to improve is to watch others and the instructor as he just knew the track better and what speed to take the corners at, with his better racing line. He simple used that to his advantage to have some fun keeping up with you.

I used to drag my knees in almost every corner down to my toes, and really fast people would zip by me. That was frustrating watching them go turning at nearly same lean angles. And chicanes according to Keith Code should be knee to knee in 1/2 second .5.

If you're ever struggling with the circuit the best thing to do is get the instructor to sit at a reasonable pace in front of you just reeling apex after apex off, you'll eventually get there then start adding on some pace...

Use a Ducati, Triumph, or another bike with gobs of engine braking. I didn't touch the brakes much at all when riding canyons out in SoCal. I wasn't suggesting never use the brakes, merely that gear selection and being mindful of how your suspension affects your turn-in helps a lot. On/Of/Neutral throttle can help or hinder handling in various situations.

That was hilarious, some of the instructors you meet at these events are full of beans! Regarding improving lap times (not yours, just in general) it does make me chuckle sometimes that some people are so obsessed with getting their knee down yet you'll see pros whizzing past them because it's not necessary etc. Regarding yourself improving, have you ever done a Californian Bike School day?

The long corner at the top of the course is where a competent rider can catch up a lot i dare not go round it at anywhere near the speed you could do if you new what you were doing, that said any corner is the same for me ,nice track though had a yellow flag there to let a family of ducks cross the track cracked me up.and a local lad who was big totally monstering the mountain jump watched him for ages at the end of the day.
